I had a chunk of pot roast in there from last night...can eating this make her sick? It was obviously not refrigerated for 24 hrs so I'm concerned. Thanks!

it was already cooked right? Your dog should be ok. Considering some of the weird things I've heard of dogs eating this is fine.:D

She will probably have an upset tummy, go outside eat some grass, get sick and be fine.

They are a lot hardier than we give them credit for. Maybe some gas or diarrhea (from the change of diet). Were there onions with the pot roast? That might be another question...

My dogs constantly gets into the garbage. He ate hamburgers that were outside in the hot summer trash for an entire weekend. He is still here! I would be concerned if your dog begins to throw up multiple times. Otherwise he'll probably have some interesting poops!

I was telling my husband about your dog eating meat out of the garbage. He reminded me of the time we found one of our dogs chewing on a deer head. A hunter must have dumped it in the woods and my dog found it. He never did get sick. Another of our dogs brought home a whole cooked turkey leg. Never did find out where he got it, but he didn't get sick either. The funniest was the time my husband decided one of the dogs would enjoy chewing on an ear of corn. She grabbed the corn and swallowed it whole! I was amazed that she didn't get sick or have digestive problems the next day.

Dogs have amazingly fast digestive systems, so bacteria and bad things don't have a chance to get into their systems, like with humans. That's why you often see dogs eating garbage, but never get sick. I've seen my dog eat a lump of canned dog food off the basement floor that had been there overnight-I hadn't noticed it the night before when I brought him upstairs-and he was fine!
Before we were married, DH's dog got into some Xmas presents we had bought, a box of four VERY rich chocolate truffles, and he was totally normal! I was livid..it was about $12 dollars worth of chocolate!

Cooked onions are ok, cooking destroys the chemical that causes problems. Lots of commercial dog foods have onion powder added.
Raw onions and garlic (and probably other members of the onion family) can cause serious blood-clotting problems in dogs and cats.

She's fine...thank you all. I worry about bloat because she's a bulldog and they can be prone to that and it's fatal in about 50% of cases.
