Some of my earliest and best memories involve WDW. My family had an Avon camper and every year (during the 70's and into the 80's) on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we would, along with another family from my hometown, drive to Fort Wilderness and stay until Sunday. There were a few years when we went during the summer, but our annual trip was typically during Thanksgiving. I remember the electrical water pageant in the lagoon (probably another name for it which I can't remember) and the movie night which Ft Wilderness had where I saw The Apple Dumpling Gang (I think) and many other Disney movies.
My family still went when I was a teenager and I was able to take along a friend. We stayed at The Contemporary. My buddy and I met some really cool girls from South America in line at Space Mountain one year and tried desperately to talk to them. They just smiled and we hung out for a while until the whole "we don't speak Spanish" thing got in the way.
One year in college I convinced my buddies and a few girls that WDW would make for a great spring break trip. PI and drinking around the world in Epcot took the place of Vail, or some beach destination. A decade later we all agree that it was our best spring break.
I tried to convince my wife that it was the perfect place for a honeymoon. That time I was not as successful, but during our three year marriage we went 4 times. Since our split, I think she has bought a time share in Orlando. That's cool, I still have hopes to join the Vacation Club in the next couple of years. We never had children, but one day I hope to be able to become a Dad and take them to WDW. Reading some of y'all's posts with pictures of kids enjoying Disney is so touching and even if I don't have kids of my own, maybe I can sponsor a local family to go just to be able to experience what I consider a THE place to create childhood memories.
Sorry to ramble about this stuff, but Disney has created some of the best times of my life and I'm sure I'll be enjoying it for years to come. I'm glad to be a part of a board that has so many nice folks with the same passion for a truly magical place.
