Cast: Me, DH, DD7, DD4, DS2
Day 1. We had driven down and had a room only at ASMo since we didn't know when we'd get there. We went to DTD Rainforest Cafe for dinner. From what I've seen on these boards it can be a real hit or miss place. Well for us it was a big hit! We were in the gorilla room and the kids loved the theme. We ordered the Awesome Appetizer Adventure and we all like it. DDs both had pizza and loved it (and DD7 is very picky). DH ordered a new trio with ribs, coconut shrimp and steak. I had Maya's Mixed Grill. It was all delicious. Our server was very good. Very attentive and friendly maybe a little too talkitive, but that's okay. The bill was $100 before tip. Oh and that day they said they weren't doing reservations, just first come first serve and we had about a 15 minute wait to go in.
Day 2. We moved to AKL and the dining plan kicked in
We stayed concierge so all our breakfasts were in the lounge. Their banana nut muffins are yummy! We had PS/ADR (refered to as reservations from here on LOL) for Boma. We figured we were on vacation so we were adventurous and tried almost everything and there wasn't a bad food in the bunch. All very tasty. Even the kids tried a lot of new foods. Oh and now I understand all the talk about zebra domes. They are awesome! DS2 was especially fond of them.
Day 3 we had dinner at Chef Mickeys. Our waiter was Bob (he's the only server all week that really stood out although the others were good, just not great) and he was awesome! He was bringing us refills and clearing plates so fast sometimes we wondered where our plates went
We were seated early (had 5:40 res. and were seated at 5:00) and we got to meet all the characters early and Minnie herself even took our drink order. I think we had very good character interaction. They came around at least 2-3 times and would stop for pictures or to joke with the kids. Easily the best of the 3 character meals we did. The food selection was nice and everything we tried was very good. Oh and after talking with Dale, it's been decided by our family it should be Chef Dales
Day 4 we had dinner at Epcot with the Princesses. I admit I was a little leery of the food but we all loved it! All the kids ate all of the appetizer plates brought to them and then started eating off the adult plate. DS2 and DD7 had hot dogs and DD4 had the pasta. DH had the venison stew and I had the poached cod. Princess wise we had Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine, Belle, Ariel and Cinderella. DD4 was dressed as Snow White and they all commented on that. The interaction here was lacking. They only came around once and honestly most didn't seem all that friendly and some just didn't seem to have the right personality to pull off a princess.
Day 5 W We did the Sunrise Safari so breakfast was at Tusker House. Excellent food for our safari. During the afternoon we ate at Flame Tree Barbecue. DH and I each had the 1/2 slab of ribs. The kids had hot dogs. No complaints from anyone. Dessert was frozen lemonade. That night we had a sitter come so just DH and I could go out. We had 8pm reservations at the Rose and Crown. We were seated indoors near a window but we really weren't there for Illuminations since we had seen it the night before. Our server was very nice. For appetizers we had the fruit and cheese plate and prawn cocktail. Dinner was the Fish and Chips. All was excellent. Desserts were Baily's Irish Cream Brulee and the Stick Toffee Pudding. Both were delicious but I prefered the Cream Brulee. I think the server was shocked when we left during Illuminations. She offered to take us to the observation deck but we prefered to shop while the crowds were watching
Day 6 dinner was at the Crystal Palace. DH and I weren't crazy about this meal but to be honest it was mostly because by now our kids were on our last nerves and we were having a hard time enjoying anything
The food was good. I really liked the prime rib. Finally someplace that had well done instead of rare. Character interaction was okay but we only saw the characters once at our table. We were in the middle of our section and the handlers all had to come to us to see if we'd seen so and so yet. The kids got to participate in the parade around the dining area and that put them in a little better mood.
Day 7 Our last day
We went to Disney Studios and ate at Pizza Planet. We all liked it. It reminded me of Chuck E Cheese. That night we used up the last of our CS at Mara on 2 shrimp dinners, 2 cheeseburgers and a double bacon cheeseburger. It was all good. Deserts were zebra domes and chocolate mousse.
At the end of the trip we had 2 kids TS left over. Most of our snacks went to pop and water with a few ice cream bars and a popcorn thrown in for good measure.
The only problems we had with the dining plan were for some reason Boma took off 5 credits instead of 4 although the receipt showed 2 adult and 2 child. We got that taken care of easily enough though and twice at the snack carts the computer was down. It was very easy to use and it's was nice not having to worry about what the cost of food was.
The only food we paid for was a late night craving for pizza. Nothing like paying $35 for a room service pizza
but you know what, it was really good too.
