They sent an email to every store telling them if anyone walks in that is an employee of the company- (they are a retailer) from the areas affected they are to contact HR and do a paidout (take money from the register) to give them cash. They were also instructed not to let them leave without getting them some hours on the schedule at any store they want to work, and get them the numbers to the company's family fund, which will pay for housing, clothing and food needs!

That is really wonderful Microcell. Going the extra mile is how were going to help the victims of Katrina.

the company my DH works for is also doing the same. It is nice to know that the corporations are looking out for their employees. Unfortunately I know that of the 20 stores in the area affected by Katrina they have only heard from about 10 people. :guilty:

I'm wondering if your DH works for the same company mine does?!
He just told me the same thing about his company last night.
He also told me that if any catastrophe ever happend near us the same would apply. Kind of nince to know there are great companies out there! :goodvibes

My DH's company is doing something similar also.

Each saleried employee will still receive a months pay and the part-timers will be given an average of their last 3 months until they can be temporarly relocated to another office. If they choose not to do the temporary relocation they will still get the 1 months pay.

My DH's company has only heard from one so far. He said the way training is that they should all know about the family fund, because there is a big push for contributions and stores get rewarded for 100 percent contributions.

It was started after 9/11 to help the families affected then. I hope they think to go to another store and don't just figure they are out of a job.

That is so amazing! What company is it??

I am never sure if they would eat up the free publicity or if they would fire my DH for me posting this on a message board, so I regret to say that I can't say what company it is.

I will say they are a retailer in the home decor area.

Microcell- I understand you not revealing the name of the company now, but when things from Katrina calm down, I would really like to know the name of the company, so I can make sure I patronize it.

What a wonderful way to take care of your employees!!

The postal service is doing something similar as to working. The postmaster general put out a notice to try to work in any postal employees that come in looking for work. Though, right now, I'd say the best place for them would be Baton Rouge and Houston.;)

There was a special section in the paper today with hurricane coverage. Dillard's, Hibernia Bank, Tenet Healthcare all have big ads with numbers for displaced employees to call for help. An article in the business section said La Quinta and Wyndham are helping their employees as well.

Unfortunately there is already the question of how long these companies can pay their employees and how long the hotels can provide reduced cost lodging before the impact is too much for their business to absorb.

The one photo in the paper showed TWENTY FIVE people in a single hotel room. That sort of thing can't go on for an extended period of time. I hope the gov't can get moving on helping folks get settled in appropriate dwellings. Then maybe they can start pulling the other pieces of their lives together.

My cousin and her DH were displaced by the storm. He works for RPS (owned by FedEx), and they have him on his way to Houston with a new job there. They've been really good to him and are giving him a hotel to live in for a while.

Lots of companies seem to be doing this. You hear contact numbers on the radio quite often. My DH's company has ordered travel trailers and is looking for land to help out there "displaced" employees. Even said if they can get extra trailers from FIMA they will find land to put them for employees families.
