that THURSDAYS are historically the most crowded overall park day. He says that Disney employs 55,000 people and that Thursday is the day that CM's and their family members get into the parks for free. Is there any validity in this?

I have been reading these boards for almost 2 years ....my DH starts managing a former CM & suddenly he thinks he is an overnight expert!

I have never heard this about Thursdays - anyone else?

My sister worked there on the college program many years ago I she never told us such a thing. I would like to know if it's true or not though also.

CM's always get in free, even Disney Store CM's. I think WDW CM's can also get family in free, I'm not sure if there is a limit to the number or if you have to be on full time status. CM's get in free to Pleasure Island on Thursday.

I believe that full-time employees "earn" a certain number of guest passes. I did go with a CM about 1 1/2 years ago and we went to the parks everyday and she got in free and we got in free as her guests.

Maybe they're thinking of PI - Thursday night is the night CMs get free admission into PI.

As a former CM I was able to go in free everyday. On 4 different times a year you are given the number of tickets as family members you have to get in free. After they are used you can get discounted tickets. PI is free on Thursday (payday) for all employees. A great way for Disney to get their money back. CM'S also get discounts at hotels, food, and all other disney merchandise. The discounts start at 10% and after 5 years are up to 35%. I miss this.

Is Thursday night the only CM night at PI. I thought I heard Monday was also a cast member night there?

Spoisal, I understand from CMs that Thursday is the busiest day for Pleasure Island but I've never heard that about the parks.

I know for sure that MK's busiest days are Saturday and Monday, learned that one the hard way ;)

No, I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere. Disney CMs can get into PI for free on Thursday nights, but their guests do not get in free... they get a discounted rate.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Thursdays aren't any busier overall than other days, unless you go to PI that night.

Oh Boy! Those are two of the days were we looking at, only because the parks are open later than 9pm. So are we better going when the park is only open until 9pm, because it will be less crowded? Only thing is, no Spectro or Fireworks that night either! We were thinking of Sat. July 5th, because we felt most people would have gone to the MK on the 4th of July!?!

I remember talking to a CM awile back at a nearby Disney store, and she told me they get FANTASTIC rates for resorts and such, but she NEVER said she got in for FREE!!!
Hmmmm, maybe I should get a summer job at the Disney store!:D

We met up at WDW with a CM and his wife. Like someone posted, every so often they get free day passes. And they must be able to use them on family members, as I think I recall local CM's mentioning holding enough passes to get family members in.
But honestly wasn't paying enough attention to know remember who got what, how often and how their passes can be used.
Seems like on one of our tours that the guide said something about a certain day in the week their immediate family (ex: children) can get in free. And it might have been Thursday.

Being at Disney Store cast member is harder then it looks

*looks down at my broken arm*

the pay isnt that great, but its fun. If you do get hired they would want you to stay through the hoilidays (most hiring is done in aug/sept just for the holiday season)

jimmybop,
Any job in retail is tough. You are on your feet all day, have to deal with the public (often annoying) and must work long hours during the holiday season. Plus there is the awful traffic getting to the mall during those holiday periods. However, if you can get some nice perks as a CM, it helps! My DS-in-law use to work for Disney Publishing, and she got free park passes all the time. Too bad she doesn't work there anymore!

Yes, we do get some free passes each year, but keep in mind, they EXPIRE after a certain period of time (usually, 2 years after issue). Some CMs throughout the company get a maingate or silver pass, which allows park entrance for a certain number of others in your party.

Working at DS is not all fun and games, as jimmybop can show you.:(

My son starts at a Disney Store next week after he gets home from college.

I will be interested in seeing if I can get a discount on our room for our vacation coming up in June.

Any former or current CM's want to give me any tips on how to do this?....Do I have to cancel my current ressie and make another? What verification do they need that he is employeed?

Sorry for the questions, but I hope a CM or former CM can tell me how best to do this...

The only way you can get a CM discount on a room is if the room is in his name and he is physically staying in the room with you, or on the same reservation but in another room in the same resort.... sorry:(

Jimmybop is very correct... if you are thinking of working at TDS so you can get discounts, just remember that it is hard work, not much money, and you cannot request time off between Nov 1st and Jan 6th.

I was kidding around with a co-worker yesterday and was telling her that my plan was to move to florida when my kids graduate from High School (9 yrs from now). My older DD wants to be a dolphin trainer at seaworld and me & my youngest DD were going to get jobs at WDW. My co-worker said "you could be cinderella". I told her in 9 yrs I would probably be playing one of the old villian hag witches. We got a good laugh out of it. I have just a few more days and I am so excited. The DD's are FINALLY getting excited also. I cant wait!!!
