my due date is tomorrow and when I went to the dr today, he informed me that the hospital I am supposed to deliver at ( my insurance pays 100% there) is full, so if I go into labor this weekend I have to deliver in a hospital my insurance won't cover. I called my insurance company and they said I can appeal it after the fact, but there are no guarantees. I have Federal Blue cross/blue shield. Anyone have anything like this happen to them?

 I've never heard of such a thing. As if you need a little stress in your life right now...

Just tell that baby to wait until Monday! :p

Hmmm...with a note to them from the doctor and/or hospital, I would hope they cover at least a portion of the charges. Plus with drive by deliveries these days, they may have room tomorrow. Good luck!!

Never heard of such a thing. If you "turn up" in labor, how can they sent you away. Have you already pre-registered?

I'm preregistered there, but apparently they can only accomodate 13 women and its full

You might have to fight it, but just make you prepare yourself for the fight. First, FULLY understand your policy - and don't just take the representative's word for it. Read it for yourself. Second, if the hospital is full, and you do give birth tomorrow, make sure you have that in writing from the hospital turning you away.

Insurance companies want to keep as much money as they can, no matter what your policies says. Fight them every step of the way.

Gee, I would assume that if your qualifying hosp turns you away for that reason, that any other hosp would get reimbursed! And, yes, they may not be full tomorrow, or the next day. (Does your doctor think that you'll deliver on your due date?)

I'd go to the hosp I had registered at - let them transfer me if they need to!

OMG, bless your heart. I hate this for you. Hopefully if you do go into labor, one of the women that are already in there and has had her baby will have left. Keep your chin up, we will pray that everything will be ok.;)

Don't worry, whoever gives birth today without any problems , will be out of there tomorrow.
I didn't know they could turn women in labor away.
My doctor was associated with XXXXX hospital and that's where I had to go , as simple as that. If I had gone to another hospital for an emergency, I don't know what the insurance company would have done.

Some hospitals sch inductions a few days ahead of time but if someone in active labor comes in then the inductions are the ones not to get in. Hopefully the ones in active labor will pop those kids out so when you go into labor you wont have any problems.

Seriously..........most Moms are back home after one night...I bet there will be room...but only 13 beds? That is small!

I'm sure they could accomodate you. I was pre-registered when I had my DD and after the delivery, there wasn't a bed available. So, either I went to a private room (which wasn't covered) or wait for a regular room. I was in the recovery room for 3 days and then was moved to a room finally.

Here at the hospital I work at, we sometimes have to go on "divert" if our labor & delivery floors are full, but I've never heard of insurance denying the patients' expenses if it was the hospital's fault the patient had to go elsewhere. And we also sometimes "double-up" the patients. Not for the delivery but for the rooming-in. While it's nice to have the room all to yourself and your baby, I'd rather have to share than have to go to another hospital. Besides it's usually only for one night, until a room opens up. I guess we may be a little different, as there are multiple hospitals here in Boston that deliver babies.

That is nuts! Hang on to the baby a little longer. I delivered my first and second in very small hospitals too. But there has got to be some turn over. Good Luck!!!

Oh my:eek: cross your legs;)

I'm sure a room will open up this weekend. Good luck to you!!!! How wonderful, another sweet little miracle coming into the world::yes::

That's awful.

You could set up shop in the hospital cafeteria. I'm sure they'll find a room for you then.

When I had my twins it must have been a full moon or something. The hospital was full. But they didn't turn people away. They put people in non-labor rooms. They had to put babies in the neo-natal intensive care room. I was on a bed in the hallway for awhile. The worst part is I wasn't allowed to see the babies til I got a room. The crowd dissipates pretty quickly though.

Have you called the insurance company? Tell them what you've been told and see what they say. It might buy you some peace of mind.

Don't worry, whoever gives birth today without any problems , will be out of there tomorrow.

This is not entirely true. Most insurances will allow two nights for a regular delivery, 4 for a c-section.

Over the 4th of July weekend, we were so full that we had 10 delivered patients on pediatrics because we ran out of beds. We are seeing an unusually high rate of deliveries for this time of year, and it seems to be this way in many areas!

The hospital can not turn you away. If they have to deliver you in the hallway on a gurney, they'll do it (not the best scenerio, I know, but it's happened!)

If you go into labor, go to the hospital you planned to go to and don't worry about it.

Good luck!

I have heard of hospitals needing to divert patients if they feel they can't handle the load - but it surprises me it would apply to someone who shows up in labor.

When my youngest dd was born the OB ward was swamped. They woke me up at 2am to move me out of the LDR room so they could use it for someone else. Not much fun for me, but I understood. Seems like they could shuffle a few patients if necessary.

Best wishes to you!
