My mother and I went back in Nov. We purchased the dining plan. I've done the dining plan in 2005 free, 2006, and 2007. I didn't like the fact that Disney changed the plan around, but got it anyway. In the past, the dining plan saved us, usually $100's each, and was such a great deal when the gratuity and an appetizer was included. But this time my mother and I saved only $40 each. And that was eating at the more expensive restaurants, no buffets.

So we wont be purchasing the DDP in the future. IMHO, it's not worth it anymore. :confused3

But the food was great! We'll just be going to our favorites and paying OOP. Oh well.

You saved $80 and ate at the more expensive restaurants and still give it a thumbs down? :confused3 Wow. Tough crowd. :rotfl2:
However the DDP is not for everyone, nor meant to be.

I think her point was if you aren't going to eat at the more expensive restaurants then most likely you aren't going to save ANY money so it's probably not worth it. We are going this saturday and are having the dining plan for the first time. I am going to try it because I like the fact of knowing in advance how much it's going to be and knowing that I am not going to be eating CS 16 times in one week.

Thank you! That's what I was saying. And I agree with you, it is good to know in advance and not eating CS a blue million times. I just wish they hadn't changed it. It should have been left alone.

The DDP is good if you don't like messing with the $ and you can fork out the cash. I think the Deluxe DDP would be worth it, but I definately can't afford that. Maybe in the future.

We are going in a little over a week and I did the math over and over to see if it was better to be on the DP or not. Since we are more into appetizers than desserts, prefer TS restaurants and still have to pay for my DD2, we decided that the DP didn't save us a significant amount of money and it seriously limited where we could eat and when. I also have heard that you have fewer options on the DP at CS restaurants but I don't know if that's true. While we don't know in advance how much we will pay, we still have more control over it.
As an additional explanation, my kids are not very kid-like in the foods they eat either. They don't eat anything fried (no chicken fingers, fries), don't like hamburgers, and are not that into hot dogs. So limiting my DD5 to the kids menu would be tough too. I think we are better off ordering adult food for them to share and doing buffets.
We'll see how it all works out.
