Every year, our afterschool program holds a speech competition. It’s a voluntary thing and my DD participated last year and after some persuading, decided to again this year. Being in 5th grade, she had to give a persuasive speech. She wasn’t sure what to use for a topic and we finally came up with “Why the Disney Cruise is a better family cruise”.

The speech was written entirely by my DD but I did give her a couple of ideas of what to include. Not all of the facts are totally correct, but it’s pretty close.

So for those of you who are questioning the cruise after reading the recent negative comments, here it is from and 11yo.

"What has clear water and a cooling breeze? What can relax you, make you smile, and make all your dreams come true? That’s right, the Disney Cruise, for people of all ages. Hi, I’m Erica and I want to tell you why the Disney Cruise is a better family cruise than any other cruise that sails the beautiful ocean. Kids can have a great time at the kids club on the Disney Cruise. Other cruises have kids clubs too, but they’re not nearly as fun. At the Disney kids clubs, you can dress up as any Disney character or you can dance with the princesses. The kids club on the Disney Cruise is welcome to anybody under the age of 18. There are different age groups for this club. For example, there’s a 3-7 age group, a 8-12 age group, and a 13-17 age group. This club gives you a pager so if your kids want to leave for any reason, they can page you so you can pick them up. "

"Another reason why the Disney Cruise is a better family cruise than any other cruise is Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay is Disney’s own private island in the Bahamas. Although other cruises go to the same islands as the Disney Cruise, they don’t get to go to Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay has many sights to see such as the beautiful water surrounding the island and the creatures that live in it. The island has beautiful scenery and wonderful cuisine and buffets to choose from. Castaway Cay is a small island, but there’s so much to do. Some of the things you can do are snorkel, ride a bike around the island, rid on a banana boat, parasail, get your hair braided, or just relax on the beach. There’s even a beach just for adults!"

"Now that I told you about that, let me tell you about the entertaining shows. The shows about the Disney Cruise are filled with magic and wonder. Other cruises just show magic shows and Broadway like shows mainly for adults. But the Disney Cruise has exciting shows like Hercules, Disney Dreams, and Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer, all filled with Disney characters. The other cruises don’t have Disney characters. These shows are welcome to the whole family. Each night you get one of the spectacular shows either before or after dinner. You can also go to the Walt Disney Theater to see any Disney movie that recently came out in theaters."

"My final reason why the Disney Cruise is a better family cruise than any other cruise is the restaurants. On other cruises you go to the same restaurant every night. But on the Disney Cruise you rotate each night. You also have different themes for each night. Some of the themes are tropical, formal, and semi-formal. The restaurants which you rotate with are Animator’s Palate, Lumiere’s, and Parrot Cay. These restaurants are different from other restaurants by the characters and surroundings. For example, in Animator’s Palate, when you walk in the walls have Disney drawings on them in black and white. When you start getting your food, the walls become colorful. There’s also a character breakfast where you get to eat breakfast with the Disney characters. "

"There’s much more to discover but you’ll have to find that out yourself when you go on the Disney Cruise."

Three cheers for Erica! Great job!

I'll pass all your kind comments on to Erica. So far, she doesn't even know I posted this. She'll probably be very embarrassed but it was so cute, I had to share with my DIS friends.

BTW - she got 3rd place in the competition. :Pinkbounc

Go, Erica. A girl after my own heart.
