My daughter will turn 5 while we are at disney.
I'm open for any suggestions that you guys have!
I was planning the day for MK---BBB in the AM and then possibly lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table (is it worth 2 credits---it seems pretty cool to eat in the castle). Also was planning on Wishes that night---with a break somewhere in there---we will be staying at wilderness lodge. Does it do any good to inform staff that we are celebrating bday/ do you need copy of birth certificate? open to any suggestions on how to make it extra special!
thanks,
kellie:thumbsup2

We ate at the castle and the kids had a great time. I was supposed to bring my niece and my MIL but they backed out of the trip and I wasn't allowed to downsize my reservation so I brought my boys too and even they had a great time.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I would definetly put on your reservation about her birthday. Every reservation you make tell them you are celebrating her birthday. Also, stop by guest relations and get her a happy birthday pin. Cast members look out for those special pins, and always mention them when they seem them.

Also, do you plan on her wearing a princess dress since she's going to BBB? If not, what about getting her a shirt that says birthday girl.

Best Wishes, and hope she has a magical birthday!!!

we are bringing her own gown for the BBB and i have a flashing birthday girl sash for her to wear on her birthday---i thought about doing a personalized shirt with "i spent my 5th bday at disney" but it will be jan so who knows if we will be wearing jackets! thanks for your input---kellie

With Disney's What will you Celebrate, she will either get free admission to the park or a gift card of equal value. You WILL need her Birth Cetificate to validate that.

We are going Next November and Celebrating my DS's 8th Birthday. I'm making him a special shirt and the rest of us will have shirts that say "Helping my Son/Big/Little Brother Celebrate 8"

His Birthday falls on Thanksgiving that year so it should be fun!

My DD is also turning 5 while were are at Disney. I have planned for her to recieve goody bags each morning (I'm making them). I have also created a shirt for her to wear. I also learned a great tip from this board and that is to collect some Birthday Cards and sign the character's name and place them by the door so that it looks like they were slipped under the door during the night.

We'll also eat breakfast at Crystral Palace.

Definitely let the entire world know it's her birthday! My daugther celebrated her 4th birthday there in 2007, we stayed at Old Key West and they had balloons in the room waiting for her when we got home from the parks along with a nice cardboard framed picture of Cinderella signed by her wishing her a happy birthday. Make sure that you get her a birthday button. You can ask for one at your resort gift shop (they sometimes have them there) or when you get to the parks go to either a gift shop register or to City Hall on Main Street. The buttons are free and they put the birthday persons name on the button. Cast members are trained to keep an eye out for them and she will get many, many Happy Birthdays. Some members will sign to her, some gave my daughter free pins from their lanyards (she has a pin lanyard), she got free ice cream and desserts, in Fantasyland the band followed us all around playing music and when we got to our ride destination (Winnie the Pooh) they ran in front of us and did Happy Birthday for her....it's so wonderful how Disney goes all out for birthdays (and it doesn't matter if you are young, young at heart or old). I've celebrated a few there myself and had the same types of things happen. And with Disney she can celebrate her birthday every day that she's there just by having the pin on. My daughter gets the pin on her birthday and gets to wear it until we leave.
We will be celebrating birthday number 6 for my DD next month and I've made reservations at Cinderella Castle for breakfast and she is going to do the BBB and that night we have reservations for the Wishes Dessert Buffet. She is very excited about the dessert buffet as we have not done this before. I think all in all she will have a fun filled and happy 6th birthday!

Oh and one more thing I forgot if you dial the operator or tell the front desk the day before your DD's birthday, they will call your room and if you have your DD answer, then she'll get birthday wishes from Goofy. We did this in the room and then a few cashier saw her button and pressed the number on their phones and handed it to her...it was funny cause after the 3rd time she looked at me and said something to the effect of "Boy Goofy sure does love to talk to me and wish me a happy birthday". She even thanked him later that day when she stopped to get his autograph. :-)

My DD got the gift card on her birthday this year, and had so much fun spending it!

If I'm not mistaken, that may end at the end of the year. I could be wrong. We did bring her birth certificate, as well as register online ahead of time.

I wouldn't overdo it for a 5 year old. It may be a long day, and they sometimes need some rest or downtime as well. My DD never would have made it to the fireworks at that age, but we always made our days early. Definitely if you can get a nap in, it would be fun! I'm not too familiar with the BBB - like if you take a nap, it will mess up the hair a little (I know they get it pretty well stiff, but may be uncomfortable to sleep in then?). I guess my DD isn't too girly, so she would hate BBB - but many girls love the girly stuff and the dresses! I saw one great trip report recently, and the DD dressed up so cute every day (my DD would never, sigh) and had crocks that she put coordinating bows on, so the shoes looked so cute and matching (same shoes every day, just different bows) but she was in comfortable shoes for her. That was a great idea - if you're wearing the princess gown, get matching bows for your shoes (could work with sneakers, using ribbon for shoe laces).

I don't think it's worth 2 table credits for lunch - you could do California Grill for the same credits, and we've had wonderful food there.

Definitely tell EVERYONE it's a birthday! For each ADR, mention it. Have it put on your resort reservation. Remind them as you are checking in, as they may have a button to give her then (even if it's early - let the whole trip be a celebration for her!). I think if the cast members know, it helps them, if they have an idea to help you celebrate. They can't do anything if they don't know! If you go in not expecting any freebies, just best wishes, then it's great!

It is expensive, and I wouldn't see it as worth it for my family, but the Disney florist does some gift stuff that they set up in your room. I saw on another trip report a family that did the one birthday celebration - it's I think 4 boxes of gifts from the characters plus streamers. It was a couple of hundred dollars or more I think, and you could buy things yourself and set it up while she's distracted or out of the room instead, but it looked cute. You can also order a special cake sent to the room.

You could also put together gift baskets, ship them down to yourself, then set them up the first day while she's out of the room (don't know if you have other children, but I'd do it for all of them). Maybe with a water bottle, tee shirt, light up toy or glow sticks, a little sweets, a small stuffed animal (my DD liked it when on vacation she'd get a new one and sleep with it). Something to start the celebration off, but not overdo it to be overwhelming.

Sorry to ramble, but I do love this stuff! Hope it's a magical trip and birthday!

CRT is definitely worth it. We only ate lunch there once, and the food was horrible. So, we have been back for breakfast every year, and it is great - experience and food. Two DDs (7,5) love it!!! The only thing you may consider is splitting BBB and CRT for different days. You miss a lot of park time with both events in the same day.

The What will you celebrate WILL be extended into 2010! So the free park ticket or gift card will be given out again next year:yay:
