I think I need professional help! My daughter's hair is a royal pain in the ***! It doesn't matter how much I comb it, it is just a rat's nest. Does anyone out there have a great product that makes hair easy to comb through, and helps it stay nice, at least for a little while? At this point, price is (almost) no object! Help me before I grab the scissors!

I feel your pain. My dd10's hair is just like mine, no matter what you use it gets stringy and limp and looks unbrushed.

We did find Dove Shampoo and Conditoner in cool cucumber (?) and it really works to keep her hair looking less messy plus it smells good. I haven't used it yet, but am very surprised that shampoo could make such a difference

Little secret... those tubes of conditioner that come in hair color are AWESOME!!!! I save them for my daughter. She has hair to her tushie and its thick and tangly. Good luck. (I actually think you can buy them on the shelf now... Clairol.) NONE of those spray detanglers ever work for her.

My dd's hair was hard to comb after showering/washing. We tried different expensive conditioners or I would have to use a bottle of deteangling spray - not sure if she has this problem but I finally found Pantene (the green writing -smooth and silky - can't remember right now) conditioner has worked the best so far.

 I feel your pain. My DD's have the same problem. I started using Biosilk serum & it makes a huge difference when it's time to comb out their hair. I put a little on after I wash it. It takes a few times to get used to how much to use (it's an oil, so less is more).

Recently, I found Bioinfusion serum at Walgreen's. It's their version of Biosilk & so far, I can't tell a difference. It is around $15 a bottle, but every 3 weeks or so, it goes on sale for $10. One bottle last myself & 2 DD's, all of us with hair past our waists, for around a month.

I second that.

Also, I don't know if they still make it, but Infusium had a great leave in product that made wet hair so easy to comb through.

I feel your pain, I can comb my hair smooth and then go to put it in a ponytail and it's a rats nest. You may see if your hairdresser can do something like thin it out underneath or can recommend a product. If I use a flat iron on my hair when it's damp then it doesn't tangle or if I let it curl I have to use a ton of mousse or it becomes a mass of tangles.

How old is your DD? If she's really little, you might want to cut it a bit shorter to make it easier to take care of. If she's old enough to shower, this routine might work:

I had hair like that, very fine, with just HORRIBLE tangles, especially on the nape of my neck. What finally fixed it was always washing it in the shower, with a LOT of thick conditioner (nothing that has a lot of alcohol that will dry it), and doing the comb-out *in* the shower, with the water running, with a really fat comb. Also, always starting to comb from the bottom up; going from the top down just makes the tangles worse. After toweling it gently (no tousling with the towel), spray on leave-in conditioner/detangler (I use Infusium), comb it out again, and if she has to sleep on it, braid it.

Thanks guys, I just had to vent a little about her hair. She is six, and is really quite patient about the whole thing. I try to comb it out every night, but this was my weekend to work, and I was lazy last night, and didn't do it. So it was really bad tonight. I guess if that is the worst thing I have to worry about, life's not so bad...
Ironically, I washed her hair tonight with the leftover Mickey shampoo from our vacation. I thought it would be a "treat!" Ha! Jokes on me!

Hang straight by aveda. It works as a straighter if you want to with a blow dryer or to keep body in it and just let it air dry. My hair tangles very badly and this is the best product I have found.

I have the same problem with my daughter's hair. I will have to remember these shampoo suggestions. I've used the hair color tubes and they were great, except now I have my hair colored professionally.

One thing I do is I braid her every night after her bath when its wet. Then in the morning when we are racing to get out the door, all I have to do is take out the braid, and it will brush very easily.

How long is her hair? It might be in need of a serious trim. I just had this conversation with my 10 year old sister today. Her hair is nearly to her butt and she had 2 huge tangles in it. She said it was getting too long for her to brush it all the way out. While I was gently detangling her hair, she went on to tell me that Mom (my stepmom) hurts when she does it, so she won't let her do it ;)

After seeing her ends, I told her it's time to get this mess cut Liv! It's long and tangly because the ends are old, split and just yucky. She uses Pantene and uses conditioner, which helps.

Also, is her hair curly or straight? Is it tangly underneath more than anywhere else? My hair is curly, I straighten it, but the underneath always gets tangly.

Oh and make sure to brush out before getting it wet as much as possible, then again while in the shower/tub like someone else suggested. A wide tooth comb with conditioner can make a world of difference. :)

Good luck figuring it out! I know it's a pain!

Why NOT just cut it? Sounds like it sure would be easier on both of you, and maybe it'll look really cute! This is coming from someone with a pixie cut who (aside from a period in 3rd grade when I had the Dorothy Hamill 'do) fought going short my whole life. I finally just went into a hairdresser one day when I was in college and told her to hack it off - went for the Demi Moore in Ghost thing. And you know what? I got SO many compliments and it was SO easy to take care of and SO suited to me that I've never gone back. In fact, now it's even shorter (you can kinda see it in my tiny sig pic - think Natalie Portman last year or Winona Ryder)!

I never would've known had I not just gone for it. I figured hey - it's only hair - I can always grow it back if I hate it. Never regretted it for a moment.

I have decided to call the salon first thing tomorrow! I've had it. She could easily lose 6 inches. It is very thick, with a little wave in it. My hair is very curly, and I rarely brush or comb it, because then I look like a poofball head. My daughter (anna) gets serious little tangles all over---it almost looks fuzzy. I tell her it's painful to be so beautiful. Get used to it!

Good for you boppy!! Have them do a razor cut if you can. I have LOTS Of hair but the razor gives it texture and thins out the bulk so that it does what I want. You'll have to post before and after pics when she's done!

I have curly hair that is thin so rats up easily and I like the John Frieda Frizz Ease products. The one I use is a serum so you use a tiny bit, the size of a dime or so, and rub it in very wet hair. You should then be able to comb it out and it will stay soft and not too tangly all day. It is a bit pricey but it does work.

Try Biosilk. You put it in damp hair after it's been shampooed. I guess it's considered a leave-in conditioner. Not all products work for everyone but I like it. This stuff really does the trick. I have long hair with bangs.....My bangs are straight (brush and hairdryer) and shiny and not frizzy anymore.....unless I don't use Biosilk!
