This morning I got a message from my daughter who is a student at Michigan Tech University (WAAAAY up in the UP of Michigan). She's taking a hockey class for a PE credit this semester. Today, the rink manager decided to be nice and resurface the ice half way through their class. As they waited on the bench, the rink manager stopped the Zamboni in front of the class and said "Hey, did you know the Stanley Cup is up there." and pointed to the lobby. Apparently, the guy that does video breakdown work for Chicago is from Hancock and it was "his day" with The Cup. My daughter's teacher then told the class that if they wanted to they could take their skates off and run up to see the trophy.. which they eagerly did!!! She was thrilled that she was allowed to touch it! The only bad thing is that her cell phone w/ camera was in her locker at the time!

Nice surprise, don't you think?!?!?!

That's cool! I've seen it twice -- once at the Hockey Hall of Fame and once when the NHL Entry draft was in our city. Both times, they let people touch it which surprised me.

But I've never seen it by surprise. That would be neat!

yeah! What a terrific surprise!

Definitely a great surprise!

When my daughter's class was ordering their 8th grade class rings, the company sent a representative, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl ring. This house bleeds Black & Gold so that was HUGE!!!! My daughter actually got to try it on and it was definitely a highlight for her (and my husband, who was quite jealous). ;)

It was here at our golf course a few weeks ago. The director of team services for the Blackhawks lives in town and agreed to bring it to share it with the residents. For a $10 donation, you could get your picture taken with it. Of course, the line was very long and many people did not get the picture so there were some upset fans.

I think that it was at the Bears game on Sunday but I could be wrong.

I've never heard of an 8th grade class ring. Are they the same as a high school ring?

Yes, except much less expensive. :rotfl: Must be an area thing. I graduated grammar school in 1980 and I had one too. :confused3

My next door neighbor is an assistant coach with the Blackhawks. He had the Stanley Cup at his house a few weeks ago and invited all the neighbors over. My DH and DD's got quite a few pictures, maybe I'll try to figure out how to post one here. I can't believe someone else was charging for pictures.

My friend works at a bank that is owned by The Wurtz Famiy.(the owner of the Blackhawks)

They had the Cup there over the summer. Me, DH and DS went to see it. DD didn't want to be bothered.

We got the best pictures, and I want to use it for our Christmas card, but DS isn't in it.

I'm thinking of photoshopping her in there, but not doing it good. I want to make it obvious that she wasn't there. :rotfl2:

That is pretty cool. The cup is within 2 hours of my city pretty much every year because we breed so many hockey players up here LOL

I like that they let EVERYBODY who is associated with the team take the cup for a while. I just assumed it was players and staff only. Must be exciting for the AV guy to get it for a while too :cool1:

kimblebee, I found news story about Stan's visit to Houghton/Hancock. The guy in question is the team's "video coach".

So, if you go to the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Cup might not be there? We are going there on vacation next year - maybe I need to call ahead and see if it will be there??

Very cool for your daughter!!!

Amazing experience that is! I just got goosebumps each and every time. :dance3:

How very cool!

When the Wings won it in '97 after that long drought I went to some charity fundraiser that featured, among other things, a photo taken with the Cup. One of these days I'm going to have to scan that picture, because it is by far my very favorite of my son's childhood - the photographer sat DS(then)6mo IN the Cup (with me right there with my hands around his tummy, of course) for the shot!

Hey, I touched the Cup on Saturday! We went to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, where it is on display. They let you touch it and take your picture with it. I guess we were lucky it was "in the house" that day!

Yes, when we were at the HHOF Saturday, the girl who was babysitting it, lol, said they have no notice when it travels.
