My daughter wore inappropriate clothes to school!

I am not saying that the child shouldn't have been reprimanded, all I'm am saying is that he did it in a tacky way. Once again, you may be tough, but you need to understand senstive kids feelings.

The teachers who weren't considerate were always the ones that were hated by everyone. You can tell a child they were wrong in a tasteful way. If she wore clothes like this all the time, it would be different, but it was an accident. I'm just glad that all you people who think pointing out a child in public and making them feel stupid at such a young age aren't teaching my children in school.

I'm also not saying that being mad for a long time about it is good. And I'm not the type of person that calls the school. It would have to be someting REAL BIG for me to call (like them hitting my child in school or something). My point from the beginning is that the AP's way of doing it was not OK. But oh well, I'd explain to my child, yes they were wrong and we have to be careful in following the rules, but the AP was also wrong, and we shouldn't get mad at him because apparently noone showed him how to be considerate to others feelings.

Maleficent, things are as big of a deal to a 7 year old as the parent makes them.
Best option, say oops, and drop it. Don't dwell, don't allow the child to decide it's "bad" to wear spaghetti straps. If, the next time she goes to wear that dress she decides not to, Mom says "Honey, that dress looks pretty on you. You just can't wear it to school, but you can certainly wear it many other places."

Parents ARE allowed to tell a 7 year old what to do

yes a parent can tell a child what to do. But they(parents) can not tell a child what to FEEL!

And you're right this was a minor thing, thin straps on a dress it could have been handled with alot more sensitivity.

He could have taken her aside and whispered to her your dress is really pretty, insert childs name, but it doesn't meet our dress code and although I know you love it you just can not wear it to school. Remind Mommy ok.

And sent a note home to Mommy and if they felt it needed immediate attention call the mother to bring her a tshirt to wear or a change of clothes.

I do not feel it was wrong for the AP to enforce the dress code he could have just handled it was a little decorum. This child was afterall a first grader!

I agree with Maleficent 2.... or how about just calling Mom and saying "Mrs. Smith we were wondering if you could bring Susie in something else to wear- spaghetti straps are not allowed per the school dress code." Just a thought.
