DD (14) gets a terrible razor rash everytime she shaves her legs. It doesn't seem to matter what type of shaving cream or lotion she uses. We have tried razors for sensative skin. We have tried Nair. She uses lotion afterwards, we have also tried different kinds of lotion. Any ideas? :confused3 Thanks

Has she tried the Intuition razor? I have very sensitive skin and that's the kind I use.

I'm 27 and still get this when I shave. Take her to the dermatolgist. Mine prescribed me some kind of cream that I put on my arms and pits after shaving. It still itches but not that bad.

My DD does as well, and this was one of the things that worried me about letting her shave, she's only used the intuition, which is also what I use, and she has not had a problem...oh- neither have I, even in the winter with super dry skin

That used to happen to me when I was younger. I found razors and gels that lessened it, but it didn't really go away completely until I apparently outgrew it in my mid-20's. I did find that using Neutragena handcream afterwards was very helpful. It's very soothing and actually helped my skin to heal.

Is she shaving against the direction the hair is growing or with it? I've found that with my more sensitive (back of leg for example) areas it helps to shave with the direction of the hair (shave down instead of up).

Have her try conditioner as her "lotion". I have sensitive skin too. Regular shaving creams/gels tend to irritate more than anything, no matter if they're for sensitive skin. I use a cheap conditioner (like Suave or White Rain). It's helped me a lot.

Thank you, We will have to try some of your ideas. :goodvibes She is a true DIS child.(I did something right!) We were talking about this and she said "Post it on the DIS, somebody will know" Thanks again!

My mom and sister have the same reaction. They both started using body wash as their 'shave gel' and it worked like a charm :)

Have her avoid disposable razors. I find many of these harsh. I use a Venus razor and either Gillette or Skintimate shave gel . Intuition is good too and has the built in shave cream. With a new blade she shouldn't have to press hard, which she may be doing.

Another thing I found it that I have to use an electric razor on my thighs. If I use a blade razor there I get irritated.

Watch what lotion she puts on after also. That may be irritating in itself. An unscented product such as Curel or Aveeno might be good choices.

My DD had the same problem. I bought her this razor and the problem disappeared!

I have this problem too but someone on the budget board posted a link for a free Schick Quattro woman's razor. Since I have been using mine I have not had any nicks or razor burn which is pretty much the first time ever. Might want to give that one a try. Good luck. My DD is only 8 but I know shaving is going to be not too far down the road.

For the legs I use an eletric shaver. For my under arms I use the Gillette Mach3 (yes it a mans razor) but even if I use it on my legs, I never cut, nick or get razor rash.

I also agree with using hair conditioner for "shaving cream". I use it all the time and never have a problem. She does use something WHILE shaving, right. I use a Gillette Track II razor, mens, with the lubricating strip and never have a cut or nick. I tried using DD's razor once, Venus, and that was horrible.

Another vote for an electric razor. You can't go back and forth using a regular razor and then electric, but if you stick with electric exclusively it does a nice job and no irritation. :goodvibes

Same here.

Its been so long that I had completely forgotten that used to happen to me. It did go away on its own, but nothing I did changed the rash back then. of course when I was 14, the dinasours still roamed the Earth, so I'm sure the newer products on the market might help in that regard.

Has she tried exfoliating before she shaves? That does the trick for me.

I have this problem and found that a good razor and Gold Bond lotion afterward do pretty well for me. Sometimes the Gold Bond stings for a moment on bad spots but then it soothes and I don't get the rash anymore.
