My daughter broke her arm today..

Oh, Cindy! You poor mama, you!

I went through a broken arm with Louis in May. He broke both bones in his forearm. That neither broken bone was a compound fracture was miraculous. He snapped them clean in half, down the middle. (I nearly passed out when I saw his arm--it was literally flappin' in the breeze!)

If she's in a cast that isn't waterproof, you might want to invest in a cast cover she can swim in, especially if you guys are headed to Orlando soon.

Sending healing pixie dust and a get well soon prayer your DD's way. {hug}

My ds did this 1 week before our Disney trip. He did remarkable well except for the itching when he would get hot. The waterproof cast sure did help! He was constantly dropping ice cubes down it for relief! Best wishes!

Yes, what a day it has been.

The dog got medicine, (he's fine!). We are getting another opinion on the roof (DH is handling that)..

And we are gonig from there.

Apparently, this orthopedist put like a bubble wrap type thing underneath the cast, and then put the plaster on it. He says its waterproof.

Its not that I don't trust him, but he was an older, old fashioned doctor... I'm getting visions of her taking a shower, and it all being a mess. (we have had other fractures before, and its been all the same, no water, etc)

When my ds broke his wrist, I asked for a waterproof cast. The ortho said it's what's used under the cast that makes it waterproof, not the cast itself, but they still used fiberglass-like stuff for the cast. They put the plastic bubble wrap-like stuff under it.

I'm sorry about your dd, Cindy. I hope she's not in much pain.

Oh my, what a day. It seems like things wait until almost time for a trip before they decide to happen.

I hope it's smooth sailing for the rest of the time.

I did some quick research on the cast material, and it looks like its fine. Its hard for me to imagine that this is OK to do. (I'm used to the old rules)

I did have to pay a little extra for the waterproof material (my insurance didn't cover it), so I had to pay another $11 I think it will be money well spent.

6 weeks starts today!

Wow, Cindy, $11 is GREAT! I had to pay an extra $75!! I would do it again if I had to, though. It made such a difference.

I'm so sorry for your daughter! I broke my arm the first time exactly the same way!

Well, 'cept we used roller "skates" back in my time.

But, I certainly hope she feels better! And...don't worry...all is going to be well in time.

Hey, if she has a cast, bring a Sharpie so the characters can sign it. It'll make a nice souvenir. :)

Sorry to hear about your dd. Hope all goes well and she recovers quickly. Have a great time at disney. Its something to look forward to. On one of our disney vacations little ds fell the day berfore we left and bruised his entire face. Every picture he looked like meeko. We still show him and laugh about it today. So it will be something to talk about in your family for many years to come. Pixie dust to all.

Wow, this has been the summer for broken wrist/arms. My dd goes wednesday to get a shorter cast put on. Best of luck on the Disney trip and let us know how she does with the cast on the trip.

Yep, you can always tell when it's summer. That is when our children like to give us more grey hairs. LOL Between sports, bike riding, skating, running, jumping, climbing trees. There are more cuts, scrapes, tumbles, falls, and breaks that any other time of the year. :faint:

Awwww poor kiddo. :(

Actually, she will probably love all the attention of having a cast. I agree with Barry, bring a marker for the characters to sign with. :)

I hope your summer gets better Cindy.
