We had some heavy rain last night and our whole county is flooded!!! We are lucky, we live up on a mountain so our house is fine, but our bridge that goes over our creek is completely GONE!!! We have 4 families that use that bridge!!! We were told by our neighbor that we can go through his yard and use his bridge until we can get ours fixed, but its gonna take some major $$$ to fix it. I dont know what to do. Anyone know if the Government will help us out or not??? two families are on a fixed income, and the other is my uncle "tightwad" who wont help. That leaves us and we just dont have thousands to spend on a new bridge. UGH!!! Please pray for us!!!

Maybe the families on fixed incomes will manage to make government money come your way indirectly. For example put money toward the bridge and apply for public assistance in other ways such as food stamps.

Maybe your neighbor may force the above issue by charging tolls.

Do the families on fixed incomes have equity in their homes at today's values and prices so as to be able to take out a second mortgage or new mortgage?

I would think that if it is on private land, then flood insurance would cover it. If it is part of your county's roads, then they need to cover it. If your insurance covers it or if you end up having to pay for it, you could sue the other people to force them to pay for their share but I'm sure it won't go over well.

None of us have flood insurance. We dont need it for our homes and we never even thought that the bridge would be taken out. None of us can afford to fix that bridge. I just dont know what we are gonna do....

Maybe you will be considered a disaster area (that takes the Federal government to make that decision) and can get a low interest load to rebuild the bridge.

We had something similar happen a few years ago here. It affected 6 or 7 families. I'm pretty sure they got some disaster relief funds.

I'm glad you have an alternate route!

Maybe it'd be cheaper to make a small parking lot on the other side of the creek and make a small walking bridge across the creek :confused3
