I turned on my computer and it won't load. When I turned it off last I had no problems. I have checked all of the plugs and they are all connected. I can't get my DVD drive open either. I can turn the computer on and it sounds like it is starting to load but doesn't. When I turn the monitor on it says no signal. It seems like the computer is somehow locked and I don't know if that is possible or how to unlock it. Anyone have any suggestions?

If the computer sounds "normal," but the screen is black, I think it could be your video card. I know you said you checked the cables, but I'd try unplugging the monitor cable that attaches to the CPU and reattach it firmly. See if there is any difference.

I just re-read your post and caught the part about the DVD drive.... Hmmmm...that changes my diagnosis. I'm not sure what it could be.

Had something similar happen to me recently with my work laptop and it was just as sudden. Computer was fine and then the next day it would half load then shut off. Turned out the hard drive had gone bad.:scared1:

Call the company that made the computer and see what they say or check their online diagnostic program.

This could be a number of things.

First, even though this probably won't be a fix, always start with the easiest idea, unplug the machine for at least 60 seconds, then try to start again.

I'm assuming you have a Windows PC. If so, and the first tip didn't work, start the computer and immediately begin tapping the "F8" key to see if you can get a start in Safe Mode.

Also, pop the computer open and look inside. Is there an excessive amount of dust, pet hair, etc.? If there is a lot, you could have had a meltdown.

Let us know what you find on these few tips and we'll go from there.

Ok I'm gonna try all of the things mentioned and I will let you know what happens. I'm afraid that because I turned it on and off so many times that maybe nothing will help. Ill keep you posted.

Thanks for trying to help. The final diagnosis was I needed a new video card. Computer is working fine now.
