She just sent me an email (on the company email) of a dismembered body! It was someone in a car accident. She was laughing about it but it really disturbed me. I told her I was not gonig to be speaking to her until I calmed down. She is saying I'm too "sensitive". Uh!!!

Wow. I wonder how she would feel if that was her family member. What a jerk.

I would document this. Send her an email saying, calmly, that you find this type of thing upsetting and you do not want to receive email of this nature in the future.

Seeing a picture like that would truly haunt me. More importantly, though, it's inappropriate material to be sending via work email. I would let your co-worker know that you do not want to receive such emails from her in the future and you'll be forced to report her to a supervisor if it happens again.

Give her enough rope and she'll hang herself.
The company will get on her for sending something like that. People don't realize how much one's company watches one's online time.

Vile.

What I wonder is where the photo originated? If it started w/ a first responder, I really think they need to either be dismissed or severely sanctioned.

What a moron. How can someone think that wouldn't be offensive?!?! And esp in light of the severe weather & all that....dumb dumb dumb.

I might be tempted to let your HR or boss know - NOT to get the person in trouble but b/c if they view emails they might be just as upset when they see it. I don't know what I would do in that situation.

A lot of people have sent me forwards like that-but to me it's ok. It's true people need to become a little more sensitive to things like that. That was a little bit on the ignorant side.

Wow things like that should never be sent without a valid reason. (the last bit added because I did put together a presentation that included photos of dismembered body parts in my software engineering lab at school once, but it was for my criminology class that assigned a report and presentation on a serial killer, so it really was relevant I promise)

Pretty much find them anywhere on the internet if you look. Heck, with the MO tornadoes the news stations had a picture of a person's arm hanging out of the car with a blue tarp over the rest of his body.

OP, just know that your company has access to that email and know she is the one spreading it around.

Someone sent me an email a few years ago of a young man in a car accident. To this day that image is burned into my head, and I don't know why people think it's ok to circulate this stuff. Can you even imagine what it must do to the families knowing that people are enjoying looking at and sending this material. Disgusting!

While I don't care about seeing those kinds of pictures or watching videos like the beheading of Daniel Pearl you have to use common sense when sending them to other people, especially on work email. We have policies here that forbid that kind of thing.

Someone sent me something like that once. It was of a guy who had been in a car accident, and was cut in half. The pictures showed everything. I got ill. I didn't appreciate being sent this email at all, and I wouldn't appreciate it at work.

It's a shame people don't take their job serious. One of my coworkers took their own life yesterday and another coworker proceeded to post on Facebook all the details including this persons first and last name. That just floored me! How dare someone post something so personal!? It would be one thing to post that he was saddened by the loss of a coworker, but to list ALL the gory details and the first and last name of the person just made me

Yes, this must be the same email I am referring to.

What your coworker did is disgusting. It would probably not result in a firing, but at least they would get the message from the boss that it is NOT okay for work hours to be used for anything other than work. If they get fired for it, so be it. It might be a wake up call to show some class and decency.

I'd respond and cc the boss and hr. And if she got upset at that I would tell her she was too sensitive.
