And didn't survive

Ugh, I am SO mad at myself! I just got this phone in Dec. To replace it w/ the same model will be $300 since I won't be a new customer/contract.

It went in the pool at about 1pm today. I keep trying to turn it on, but it's dead. Has anyone had a phone survive a dip in the pool before?

Update:
Well, this morning it would power on, but said "Service Required". We took it to the Verizon store & had a tech look at it. It's a goner for sure. It will power on, but won't make calls.

Being the man that he is, dh suggested I take his phone & he get a new one. That was fine w/ me. So, I have my cherished LG VX6000 & he got himself a LG VX7000.

I'm calling today to put insurance on both of them. :teeth:

The only thing you can try is to take it apart as much as possible and let it dry. Don't keep trying to turn in on, if there is water in it you will do more damage

Yep, my son was tossed into the pool by his friends last summer. His phone pretty much fried. Maybe if you remove the battery and let it dry out a few days you might luck out. :sad2:

Ditto what Alex said. Mine went for a dip in the pool also, I didn't realize until about 20 minutes later. Take the battery out and let it dry COMPLETELY...mine took days before it would work again. May be fried, may work...it's worth the patience if it works. Good luck!

I had a cell phone that "sorta" lived after my daughter turned it into a boat in the kitty water bowl. I never had insurance on my phones, but after it was ruined 3 times, I learned my lesson.

My brother dropped his in a pretty deep puddle a couple years ago, and after letting it dry for a week or so it worked fine. Good luck!

Take the phone with you when you buy your new one. DH's friend dropped his phone in his hot tub last week. When he got his new phone, they were able to transfer all the new information to the new phone.

That's true doxdogy, a lot of them have what they call a SIM card. It is solid plastic it wouldn't be affected by a swim.

My DH dropped his in the toilet. It never revived. I was able to get a replacement at no charge. Check the wireless stores for deals. He still has the same wireless provider and phone number, but the phone is different. If I got the same phone as the original, it would have cost $249! This phone is nicer and has a color screen.

If it is less than a year old, most of them have warranties.

Just let it dry out, and if need be you can even put it in a warm oven wrapped up in a towel for a couple minutes. My guy at AT&T told me to do this!! It will dry out and not leave water marks on it (make sure you have it as taken apart as it will get).

Then...call the company and say you aren't sure what happened, but it is as if your phone just kind of fried!

It may be abusing the system, but AT&T has taken a LOT of my money!

I dropped mine in a snow drift outside last winter, I didn't know I had dropped it there but I knew it was lost...I suspended the service until I figured out where I lost it...well weeks later it was pouring rain and melted the snow and there it was, right next to my car. I turned it on and it worked! Its still working a year later!!

Mine took a swim in the toilet one day. Take the battery out and let it all dry out. Mine wouldnt work that day at all. So I figured it was already ruined, what else could i do to further damage it. SO I got the bright idea to take a hairdryer to it. Not so close to melt the parts though;)

Lo and behold it did the trick. I did have to recharge it but an hour later my phone was up and running.

I dropped my phone into my glass of iced tea one day. I try not to talk on the phone while driving, but was, and when I hung up I wanted to keep my eyes on the road, so dropped it right into the iced tea. That will teach me to talk and drive! I was planning on getting another one, so it wasn't a big deal.

The lady at the Verizon store said a person can blow dry their phone to help it dry faster, but the key is to NOT try and turn it on before it is totally dry or it will never work. Guess doing that fries a circuit or something.

DS has two cells at the bottom of Cape Cod Bay.

dd went whitewater rafting. the raft flipped over. dd survived. her cell phone did not.

DH sells cell phones and the most common reason for phones getting busted is falling into the pool. i believe the only way to get a new phone for free is if you have insurance. it's only 3-4 bucks a month then i believe 35 bucks for the new one. at the end of the year if your phone is "mistakenly dropped" into the pool you can then get a better one for little cash.

I just lost my cell phone at work and i just at a couple months with no insureance.

My husbands cell phone dropped into lagoon at the beach club while we were getting on water mice. Amazing they shipped it to us a few weeks later? Did it float? It had major water in the screen and the screen does not work but the phone does. It was replaced by the insurance. We pay the $3.99 a month. There was a $50 deductible to have it replaced.

DH dropped my phone in a creek. Luckily it still worked.
The irony was that DH had given our boys his cell phone while they played in the creek & DH had mine while he did yardwork nearby. DH has insurance on his phone so we decided that is the one the boys should have while they were in the creek. Then DH joined them & dropped MY uninsured phone.
