My cc information was stolen from a BJ's database and...

They relied on the media to let me know about the issue.
They claim only a small portion of their members were affected , about 3% of the 8 million members. When I asked why they didn't send us a letter to let us know , they said they relied on the media to let people know. Excuse-me? they mail me every single freaking junk mail they can without a problem, but when it comes down to my information stolen from their database they won't send letters?
The way I found out was when my bank called me to let me know about Visa reporting my account as a potential problem and requiring me to close the card and get another one. Then a couple of days later I found an article on the local paper. Who the heck made that decision at BJ's? I don't buy newspapers and sometimes I don't even watch the news!!!

About 2-3 wks ago every member in our family (invloving 4 households) rec'd notification from our banks our CC/ATM's were being canceled due to being compromised. We were aggervated and wondered - 'what the heck'?! To make matters worse, some were away on business trips and our son is overseas depending soley on their ATM card, etc.

Last week I read in our local county paper it was BJ's!! I am a big fan of BJ's, but how inconsiderate not be contacted by BJ's first. We are all in the process of waiting for new CC's/ATM cards and pins.

The same thing that happened to 4nana also happened to me and my DH. We got a letter from our bank saying that our CC's were compromised and new cards were on the way. It took about a week to get our new cards. It was a pain in the neck because that was the only CC we had.

When we got the letter from the bank, I called them to find out more about it and all that they were able to tell me was that one of the merchants where we used the card stored all the information (name, address, phone number, CC number) from the card on a data base. The bank also told me to look for any fraudent charges on my CC statement from Nov. 2003 to Feb. 2004. They said it affected about 3 million people.

I had no idea it was BJ's until I read this post! I will be using cash there from now on.

Bj's is BJ's Wholesale club. Like Sam's Club (owned by Walmart).

I saw a newspaper article about the CC# scam. Sorry to hear about all that were affected.

My aunt had her cc info. stolen and it was from BJ's too! She got a call from the cc company stating she had some charges that didn't fit her profile. I guess it didn't --- it was for the purchase of land in Russia of all places! How crazy is that?

Mamamia , I was also told the same thing when I questioned who the merchant was, I immediately thought of Walmart but a couple of days after that , I saw an article on the local paper about the bj's issue. Thankfully Visa notified my bank and my bank notified me , otherwise I wouldn't have known anything and I could have gone for God knows how long with this card number stolen and nobody knows what they could have done to me.
But I am furious at BJ's for ignoring the 3% of 8 million people and rely on the media to let those people know.

Mine was too! But the bank wouldnt tell me who it was that compromised the information.

One of our cards (Visa) was suddenly reissued last week with a new #. And we are not even BJ members.
