My cat is having kittens....updated photos post #150, p. 10

I just have to say that I am laughing at the thought of a thread entitled, "My Cat is Having Kittens" could possibly get locked at any moment.

The shelters locally will spay/neuter as soon as the animal is taken in. Nothing is adopted out with reproductive abilities as far as I know. I once fostered a dog and the shelter spayed her and I kept her afterward until they homed her. I'm going to take a guess and say that the money is used to pay the veterinarian and staff, plus any additional supplies, as well as the expense of feeding the animals until successfully adopted. Considering those expenses, there probably wouldn't be much left over.

It would also weed out those folks who might want the animal for some unwarranted purpose. When I tried to find homes for kittens last year, one of the customer reps from a pet store where I considered placing an ad advised me about interviewing potential adoptive homes. She said some people came to the pet stores and wanted kittens to feed to their snakes. Ugh!

Generally, I try to find homes through my vet's office. In fact, potential homes had to come with a vet's endorsement.

I hope this doesn't come out the wrong way- and yes, I have 2 cats-both fixed BTW and 1 is from a shelter- anyway; what's the big deal about snakes needing to eat too? We are all part of a food chain- and there is more to my thoughts but no one is going to get past the part of snakes eating cats. And I really HATE snakes. So, nevermind I guess.
Let's all just agree to disagree...:grouphug:

Our local humane society had so many adult cats recently that they were pretty much adopting them out for free, or pay for one get one free. Cats especially there are just so many in the shelters, on the streets etc. People really do need to spay and neuter. Its not fair to the cats to keep getting pregnant and having babies and its not fair to the ones who end up euthanized either - oh not to mention medical issues for dogs and cats who dont get spayed or neutered

you guys are so dissappointing... i was hoping for more kitty pictures.

Here you go SandrA...this is Feisty....enjoying an afternoon in the grass.....

I understand that they need the money. I sympathize and have donated.

My issue is what some of them charge. For example, one shelter in our area charges $135 per cat. Many people like to adopt a pair of cats and that cost is quite prohibitive for some. Other shelters charge anywhere from $60 on up and that includes spaying and shots. The expensive shelter that I mentioned routinely puts many cats to sleep when they first receive them and why wouldn't they? People will of course go to the lower cost shelters.

I just hate to see so many animals never get a fighting chance. :(

cute picture...........hope all is going well!! I think you could name them after the seven dwarfs:hug:? Can't remember how many of them there are, but I think it would be okay:confused3

Here's a couple of new photos from this morning. All the kitties have both eyes open...and there are only 3 so the naming them after the 7 dwarves might not work...although "Sleepy and Dopey" might be cute for 2 of them. I haven't checked if they are boys or girls yet.

This one I took while mama kitty was eating breakfast:

They are soooo cute! I just love them all, they are so itty bitty. Momma cat looks just as tired as the kitties :goodvibes

This one is so funny!!! :rotfl: She looks very suspicious! I keep showing the kitten pics to DH and each time he says "oh how cute! But no, we're not getting one!"

I really wish the flamers would leave this thread alone - they've said what they want to say, now can't we just look at all the cute kitten pics!

Yeah, as soon as she realized I was over there with the babies, she came right over to check out what I was doing. We don't touch them until they have their eyes open, and she's pretty good about letting us touch them. Mama's name is Angelica.

I like your kitty's name: Cheeto. That's cute!:thumbsup2

YAY! cute kitty pictures. Thanks Poppy.

Feisty is really cute too. Most of my cats growing up were all black and white cats. Right now my room-mate has two cats, April is black and white and Blacky is well black... April is a fun cat, she's either perched on the couch next to me, or on my bed when no one else is home. Blacky is very neurotic, everything flips her out, she starts bolting back and forth through the rooms, and she doesn't like getting petted much. Until I go to the bathroom, then she's all over me begging for attention. The min I stand up and wash my hands, she's darting back out and doesn't want any more attention.

I am partial to black and white kitties...probably because they go with my black and white cows!
