My Cat died today!

Sorry to hear about your kitty. :( ((hugs)) As for telling your kids, I wouldn't tell them anything until they asked, if it were me.
I'm paranoid about my cat getting out. She had been an outdoor cat for 2-3 years, and had a couple litters of kittens, but she was always such a loving cat and I finally decided to make her a housecat as I was so afraid of her getting hit in the road (we live on a fairly busy country road). My DH doesn't really like her being in the house all the time, but he just has to deal with it. If I could be 100% certain she wouldn't get hit, I'd let her out, but since I can't be certain she stays in. She rarely tries to get out, but the back screen door didn't shut tight once and she did sneak out. I looked all over the house for her and couldn't find her, so stepped out the back door and there she was!! Thankfully she hadn't ventured far, and was ready to come back in!

I am so sorry that you lost your pet. I really do know what you are going through. I lost 3 very old cats in 3 months and I still miss them so much.

Best wishes. Try not to feel guilty about the cat getting out. Just miss him and love the others!

I think you should tell the kids. It is a natural part of life.

:( So sorry to hear about the loss of your furry family member.

Thanks everyone! We haven't got him back yet. I guess there was a mix up as to where he was supposed to go and I'm not exactly sure where he is right now. The Vet clinic had him, then he went out to Animal Control. The Vet clinic was supposed to call when he was brought back. I guess we'll have to pick him up tomorrow. We haven't told the kids yet. My husband is on shift, so we want to sit down with them all together.
I really appreciate the support!:D Marilynn

what a terrible thing to have happen. I'm sorry for your loss. As "mommy" to 3 cats, I can understand your pain.

I'm sure he had a good life with your family. I always say if I ever come back to earth, it would be as a cat in a home like mine.

I'm so sorry! We put our 15 1/2 year old cat to sleep a little over a month ago (kidney failure) and we miss her so much! It's so hard to see a cat on TV or in a magazine. I was in the waiting room of a doctor's office and picked up a magazine and there were so many cat product ads in there, I was almost crying!

I'm sorry, too. It is a terrible thing to lose a beloved pet. Hugs!

So very sorry, Marilynn, on your loss of Chillie.

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Thanks Dan M, that got me crying all over again. A very touching poem!
