My cat died Small update post 29

How hard it must be. :sad1: I have 3 cats and I don't know how I would cope without any of them. :sad2: They are like my children. I wish there were something I could do.

Oh no!!! I'm so so so sorry!! :(

Our neighbor's Pit Bull was out without a leash (and NO type of training) and he attacked our cat, he crushed her to death. :( We contacted Animal Control and made a complaint, gave vet reports and had a hearing. Please contact your AC offices and report this incident, that should not be forgiven. :( We told our neighbors if they got rid of the dog we would not ask for money (to cover the vet charges and DD's clothes where the cat had bled all over her), they did bring the dog back for about a month and when we started talking to them about the bills the dog was gone. He was deemed a dangerous dog and they were given a list of stipulations to meet, they met some but not all of them. We aren't sure if they took the dog to their relatives in Oregon or had him put down but they don't have him anymore, now they have a different dog that acts the same way. :(

So sorry for your loss of your furbaby!! I hope that something is done with the dog that attacked her.

I am so sorry . I lost my Minnie cat last Wed afternoon. I know how sad you are. I cried as I drove past the vet's office today. : (

HUGS to you .

That's terrible. :sad1: I'm so sorry.

I agree that the dog should be reported. If it came in your yard to attack your cat then it might also attack a child. :sad2:

What an awful thing to happen! I'm so sorry..:(

Yes, we do know the owner and he claimed the dog got off his lead. But we saw him yesterday and he had the dog and another dog with him and they were not on leads. He said he would pay the vet bill, but when he heard how much it was, he said he'd pay some of it, so my mother's thinking of reporting him.
Thanks for all your support.

 Yes, report him and file a claim with Small Claims Court. He is liable for the WHOLE vet bill. If you catch him & his dogs off their leashes again, take pictures. You don't want this happening to another cat. his cat has tasted blood and knows what it is like to kill. That instinct doesn't go away once activated.

I am so sorry,
we too just lost one of our kitties, it is heartbreaking:hug::hug:

Please report this incident, I am a dog owner and I take my responsibility very seriously and quite frankly what happened to you and your family sickens me. You have no idea if this will happen again, and next time it may be a child. In the very least this dog needs to ALWAYS BE ON A LEASH and supervisied AT ALL TIMES. I am so sorry for your loss:grouphug:

I am so sorry. How devastating for you to lose your kitty.

Regardless of if he intentionally let the dog off leash or it accidentally happened, I believe you are entitled to the entire cost of the vet bill. You may have to take him to small claims court to get it and that is something I would persue just to make sure he understands he is 100% responsible. And yes, do report the incident to animal control.

No, I am a pet owner and have lived with dogs my entire life so it is painful to say this, this dog needs to be put down before he attaks either another pet or a child.

That is why I said at the very least, it depends on the local jurisdiction as to what will happen to the dog, and personal beliefs aside they will make the call and each jurisdiction is different. My point was mostly that this needs to be reported so that some action will be taken to prevent this from happening in the future. Nothing good can come from not reporting this horrible incident. Again I am just so sorry for your loss:hug:

As a child I lost a kitten-almost-cat the same way. I am so sorry for your loss. Poor kitty....

Yes, for all we know, this could be the THIRD time this has happened already. Or, if it happens again, they need a history that this has happened once before.
