My Brother's Wedding....

Yesterday, my brother got married. It was just such a beautiful day & I'm so incredibly happy for him.
He's 3 years older than me & we were very, very close for years. I quit drinking 17 years ago & he stayed "out there" & we drifted apart. During that time, I worried & prayed for him. I watched him hurting himself & getting into relationships with women who didn't deserve him. It was very hard....
6 years ago, he finally stopped trying to kill himself & then he met a wonderful woman who was his equal & treated him with Love. Watching the 2 of them together is amazing - Their Love for each other just shines out & touches everyone around them. So now I have a sister, finally....
I made it thru the ceremony without crying, which was a miracle - They chose an old Celtic Handfasting vow that was very moving & very fitting. Their wedding truly was a Fairy Tale wedding.
I got to spend some time with some old friends that I have been missing over the years & rejoice in my Brothers Happiness....
It was a day I will always remember, celebrating my Big Brother's Love & Joy....

Jan/cape - A handfasting is a sort of "pagan" wedding. It promises love & honor & a joining of 2 equals. Traditionally, a handfasting was done for a year & a day. Then the couple would choose to either dissolve or renew their commitment. Many couples choose to Handfast for a Lifetime or an Eternity now, like a traditional wedding.
Al & Cheryl chose to have a traditional Church wedding, with a handfasting vow-
Part of their vows went something like this...

"You cannot posess me, for I belong to myself,
But while we both shall wish it, I shall give to you
all you that you require.
Yours will be the name I shall cry out in the night
And the eyes into which I smile each morning
I pledge you the first bite of my meat
and the first drink from my cup
I shall be a shield for your back,
and you for mine.
I will not slander you and if we shall quarrel
We shall do so in private
and tell no others of our grievances
This is my vow of Love to you"

I wish I could remember all of their vows - I thought they were just so beautiful. They spoke them together, in unison.
