I'm out at lunch with him and other managers. The waitress refills my drink and I said thank you and asked for extra napkins. She brought them and I said thank you! My boss the he is turns to me and says, "How many times are you gonna thank her, she is just the waitress and its her job to serve us"! I had to proceed to tell him that my mommy taught me when someone does something for me to say thank you, and if he tried it once or twice around the office he might get more cooperation as well. He then told me he pays his employees salaries and that was all there getting from him, and they should be thanking him for a job!

Geez I gotta start looking for a new job!

I hope his name is not Bob Iger. We'd be in trouble if that was the case.

Does he have a boss - if so does she think the same way of him (and does he even know?)

cheers

:confused3 :stir: :furious:

Sounds like someone missed out on the manners lesson as a child. :sad2: I always say thank you to the servers who seat me, refill my drinks, bring my food, etc. My 6 year old normally rambunctious sons say thank you as well always impressing the wait staff. :thumbsup2 Don't worry with good manners and a good head on your shoulders finding a new job should be a piece of cake. :goodvibes

WHat a jerk.... I teach my kids (DS 14,DD10) to always thank the waitress or waiter when they give us anything even when they deliver the meal... I don't care how much he pays they deserve the courtesy.... He probably would throw a fit if someone wouldn't thank him...Sounds to me like he needs some disney magic dust :grouphug:

my old boss was like that... a thank-you costs nothing and makes ALL the difference...

(i start a new job in a week!)

Sounds like someone's on a little power trip!!!! :rolleyes2

...little things like "please" and "thank you" go a long way. I work at a very popular restaurant on Saturday night for extra cash, and let me tell you, I get treated like a moron most days.

I would love to tell some people, "hey, I have a great job (I'm a manager elsewhere), I have a great education, I am a Brownie leader, AND I am a single mom to a beautiful 6 year old." I choose to serve once a week for extra cash (like paying for WDW trips and dance lessons).

Be nice to your servers, people. We have feelings too. Like I have told people that I train: we are servers, not serVANTS.

Hi!

Hey - sounds like my boss pirate:. Hoping to find a job real soon!

My MIL told me the same thing once. That it is inappropriate for me to thank a waitress because it is her job to bring me my food. I almost fell off my chair.

I'm lucky. My MIL doesn't live in town. For you, I suggest monster.com....immediately!

Wow what a jerk. I was a waitress in college and a thank you made my day. I always thank my waitress for bringing me my food as do my children. It is just polite and the I am sure the servers appreciate it. I think you need to get a huge Thank you card(you know the giant cards!) and ask him to sign it- you are going to bring it to the fed ex guy. :rotfl2:

Sounds To Me Like He Was The Spoiled Little Kid When He Was
Younger (and May Have Gone To Disney) Whined And Got What Eva
He Wanted From Mommy And Daddy Just To Shut Him Up

That is just someone who is not in touch with reality. But as they say,,,, "What comes around goes around!".

Your boss probably doesn't have a lot of friends and his family probably doesn't like him that much either. They say there is "one" in every family. He's probably "one" in his family.

The company I worked for hired a new CEO. His famous quote, after only a few days on the job, was "I don't fire people, I make them so miserable that they quit". I bet he didn't say that in his interview with the Board of Directors.

Some people just take the power that comes with a job and don't see the people that it takes to run a company. Wait staff are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to the success of a restaurant--and it doesn't look like he sees it that way.

Incredable! I wonder with whom, in his cold little world, he shares the kindness and common courtesy we should all treat everyone with? He better sleep with one eye open, lest he be visited by 4 spirits tonight....

Wow, what an....

I feel guilty if a server refills my drink and I fail to thank them! wow, yeah, you need a new job :)

Had to laugh at that one--we are constantly correcting our youngest DD in restaurants when she calls them servants, rather than servers. Of course she's a little diva, so she probably knows exactly what she's saying!

As to the OP, I agree that his attitude will come back to haunt him. In your letter of resignation (after getting that much better job at a competing firm ;) ), make sure to mention that you're leaving because you don't feel appreciated--a simple thank you every once in awhile would have done wonders!

What a jerk!
I always, always, always..thank the servers and have taught dd to do so as well. I have noticed that when people go out to eat with me - they thank them as well. My dh said his parents never did until they went out to eat with me! :teeth:
They work hard and deserve respect!

Sheesh - what a jerk! Hope you find a new job soon!!
