Well I feel like the rug has been pulled from under me.

I started working as a business travel agent with my Ex Mother-in-Law in December 1999, at the end of last year she bought the business herself (before she was a director). Things were going well at the beginning of the year as we got some new clients but just lately it has been very quiet. Maggie now does all the accounts in the office herself and I think it has been a bit of a wake up call for her as she didn't realise how much hard work it is. Anyway a friend of hers (who used to work for American Airlines) has offered to buy the business which is great news for her as she will be able to pay off her mortgage and not have the stress of running it. On Monday she came into the office with her husband to go into details and sort out finances etc. Well she told Maggie that she thinks she will only be able to keep one of us working here. I know that Maggie will stay as she knows all the clients and has been in the business a long time. So I need to start looking for a new job. The only thing is she will probably take over in January so it doesn't give me very long. It just seems totally the wrong time for this to happen as we are saving and saving for our WDW wedding next year. I'm sure something better will come along but I just feel so sad and sorry for myself right now.

I did get a call from a recruitment agency yesterday so hopefully they will be able to find something suitable, if not I may look at a change of career.

Sorry to hear about that. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get something real soon!

What a real shame, I hope things work out, the problem will be finding another career that you love as much as travel, I know myself how tempting it is to switch to a well paid job but there's a lot to be said for enjoying your work. Have you thought about signing up as a travel cousellor? or are there any big business travel houses near you? either way, I wish you well

I am really sorry to hear your bad news, I will keep my fingers crossed that things work out well for you

:grouphug: So sorry to hear your news. :wizard: :wizard: I really hope you are able to find something else soon

What a shame ~ Hope you find something very soon :grouphug:

Sorry to hear your bad news, hope it all works out for the best for you.

Carolfoy, I have put my profile on the Travel Weekly website and aa appointments called me yesterday.
The problem is I really don't know what I would like to do. My dream is to work in a wedding dress shop but you don't see jobs advertised for that. I did see a job at Bolsover cruise club but the advert had been used without their permission so they are not hiring at the moment, they are going to keep my cv on file though.

so sorry to hear your news. DH and i both know how you feel DH's job is going to india next year so he is looking for something else and i am trying to find full time work now Bex has left school it is so difficult but i am sure it will work out for all of us fingers crossed :thumbsup2

Emma sending you :grouphug: It's horrible when changes are forced upon you. Hope something else comes along for you really soon

Good Luck in finding a new job. I am sending you positive vibes.

If I were you I'd go round to all the local wedding dress shops and offer your services, you must be a good catch as you probably know a lot about getting married abroad and the legalities involved. As a travel agent you already know how to deal with a crisis and unforeseen circumstances, you know how to use your resources to get info and solve potential problems, seems to me you're more than qualified :goodvibes
Ask about becoming a wedding planner for them too, you never know!

Good luck with the future. Are there any other business travel agencies that you could apply to?

Sorry to hear that! I know exactly what you are going through, i was made redundant in April this year and my fiance in August and we have a WDW wedding in a few weeks!

So sorry you have had such a shock. Life has a funny way of working these things out though, and it may just open some other doors for you. Lots of luck to you :goodvibes

Sorry to hear that :grouphug: Good luck :wizard:
