Tonight's our big Romantic Second Honeymoon Anniversary Dinner. I spent many, many, many hours (lots and lots) on the internet deciding which restaurant was right for us. My first impulse was to go fancy. I even made reservations at a couple of places. I mean that's what you do for a big romantic occasion isn't it? Go fancy?
Pinewood Country Club Januarary 3, 1980.
Scott and I are at our big fancy reception following our big fancy wedding following our big fancy rehersal dinner following a dozen big fancy bridal showers, honey-do showers and bridesmaid's teas. We are both miserable. Our wedding didn't belong to us. It belonged to the mothers. Scott's and mine. The women went insane. I'm an only daughter and Scott's only sister never married. This was their big chance to show the world How It's Done and they weren't about to let it pass them by. Scott and I were just along for the ride, irritating but neccessary components of their grand scheme. Do you have any idea how stressful it is to pick out a wedding dress under the eagle eye of your future MIL? I do. I was upset and nervous for months. Scott was just confused. He didn't know that the gun was loaded. Looking back I see that we would have been much happier if we had eloped. And poor Daddy. He walked around with the stunned look of a man who has just seen his new sailboat drift away on a tide of orchids, oyster patties and Alencon lace. No, Scott and I are not "fancy" people.
Okay, cancel the reservation at V & A. We need something nice but casual. A place with good food and a relaxed atmosphere. A place where we'll know what to do with the silverware.
I decided it would be oh so romantic to have a nice dinner at Jiko before before whisking over to the Magic Kingdom for Wishes. Sound's nice doesn't it? The only problem is that one does not whisk over to the Magic Kingdom from Jiko. One sets out on an epic journey. On a bus. Not very
I had big plans to consume irresponsible amounts of champagne and did not want to use the car. Cancel the reservation at Jikko.
What to do, what to do? Scott's no help. All he asks for in a meal is a hunk of meat, something starchy and a beer. If it were up to him we'd be having our Romantic Second Honeymoon Dinner at Bubba's Bodacious Barbecue. More time on the 'net. How about Artist Point? Artist Point is just a short romantic boat ride from the MK. Scott likes the Pacific Northwest. I like salmon. We won't have to buy fancy new outfits. Artist Point has macaroni and cheese on the menu. Gentlemen, we have a winner.
So, we got all dressed up (for us) and journeyed over to the Wilderness Lodge for our big dinner. This may seem like a big step down from my original V & A plans to some people but it was the right choice for us. We just loved it. We had a corner window table and it felt much more intimate than I had expected. The food was great and the waitress terriffic. We lingered over our meal and nobody bothered us. The perfect combination of casual, yet special. The only fly in the ointment was that we missed Wishes. The bean counters at WDW had moved Wishes back an hour at the last minute. Well, you can't have everything.
The Magic Kingdom was closed by the time we finished our meal and Scott and I weren't quite ready to go back to the room yet. It was an absolutely gorgeous evening out, starry skies and warm. Downtown Disney was looking good.
The Disney bus to DTD was, well, it was a Disney bus. Very crowded, full of families with extremely unhappy children. (Here's a little tip for all the parents of young children. Your 4 year old does not want to go shopping at DTD at 9:30 in the evening. Your 4 year old wants to play with you in the resort pool and go to bed.) Downtown Disney was nice. We poked around the shops and Scott got a cigar. (Did I mention that he's a Republican?) We held hands. We got drinks and sat by water and talked while we sipped them. The boat ride back to POFQ was much better than a bus. A good ending to our big night out.
The rest of the evening is none of your business. All I will say is that the Prince was very charming.
