My Beautiful Sheltie has gone to the Rainbow Bridge

She was diagnosed with Lymphoma last Sept, and did well on Chemo with a great quality of life, until the chemo stopped working in the last month, and her lymph nodes under her jaws got big again. Today she hacked when she tried to bark and didn't want any treats and I knew it was time to let her join my other shelties at the Rainbow Bridge. She was just shy of being 8 years old and was the sweetest dog ever.
Her passing was sweet and painless and I held her and told her thank you for all her love and happiness.
I was blessed with her for these years and with the wonderful oncology staff at the local specialty vet office. The tech for the onocologist requested a late lunch as she knew she had to leave after we let Melou go.
She had gotten very attached to her. She said she tries not to get attached to the dogs but Melou was special. And that she was.
I know deep in my heart I did the right thing at the right time, it just hurts so much.... it is too quiet around here now. Hug all your furbabies for me.

Our Doc had a similar friend in oncology before he went on to the bridge, sure was comforting.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....​

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

There is something very special about shelties!! I lost my sheltie mix of 17 years, four years ago....and, I still cry when I think about her. We just recently rescued a sheltie mix who looks just like her (and, for better or worse, acts just like her!!!)...so, I write this with a sheltie lying on my toes!!

They are amazing dogs!!! I know you can never replace her, but I do hope you find another one who warms your heart again!!

What a beautiful dog! And you are a wonderful furparent to have done everything that you could to give her the quality of life she deserved!

Your story especially tugged at my heartstrings today since I am dealing with an oral malignant melanoma in one of my dogs, who had her third radiation treatment today and had some sort of unexpected adverse reaction this evening (in fact, I am waiting for a return call from the emergency vet as I write).
