My baby has a

So sorry for both you and Dakota. Our DS fell from the top of the stairs to the bottom without touching a step once! He broke both wrist bones just above the growth plates. They set it within hours though, not days! I can't imagine keeping a 6 year old quiet that long!

Poor Dakota! :( Give him a big {{{hug}}} from me! Hope his wrist heals quickly.

Shannon, I've must of havve missed this post somehow. I'm terribly sorry about your baby's arm and the hospital ordeal afterwards.

If my dd's experience will tell you anything, it's that he will be a star for a while at school. :)
She got tossed off a horse. We were at the hospital for hours until the ortho on call could come over and he never did. He was in an emergency surgery.
The head of ortho happened to stop by and he took care of her. He was in amazement when he set her arm and she didn't scream. He told my husband that he would be screaming and this little girl wasn't making a sound.
They set it first with an arm-length plaster cast, she had two more fiberglass casts after that. Blue and bright pink.
She had a blast with the casts. She was allowed to type some of her assignments and all the kids treated her like a star.
The fact that she was thrown off a horse didn't hurt the story. lol

Just have to add an LOL about the powder vs itching thing! I have never seen an extremity that has been casted for any length of time come out looking (or smelling) pretty. I broke both arms as a kid and that was a LONG time ago. Maybe they have better options than powder these days for itch relief...Shannon I am sure its on your list of questions for the ortho doc....but I can tell you from personal experience that I would rather have to deal with a ycky looking "dried up" arm for a little while than put up with the "drive you crazy" itching that can come with a cast. Besides...you think a cast makes you "cool" at school? Wait till his buds get a look at his post cast arm!!! He will be a veritable celebrity!!! Hope he is doing ok today Shannon!

Shannon I am sure its on your list of questions for the ortho doc
LOL! I really hope doctors aren't offended when they see me bring my kids in for stuff. I carry a notepad full of questions. I feel like I'm giving them a pop quiz.:o LOL! Yep, the itching question is on the list.

I'll be sure to tell Dakota he'll start stinking.;) He'll love that. Boys are so, um, interesting about things like that.:teeth:

Thanks for the good wishes, {{hugs}} and **pd** everyone.:)

(((((((((((((Dakota))))))))))))))) (((((((((((((mom)))))))))))))))

Seems like your making the best of a bad situation!

Laura<---------who hope she will never have to deal with a broken anything!

Oh Shannon your poor lil' guy.:( I broke my wrist when I was 9 trying to side saddle down the stair railing:rolleyes: I had the temp cast for 48 hours and then the real cast.

I know this is wierd advice but do not let your son put money (or just about anything) down his cast. My brother put coins in there, saving them for later:confused: , and they started growing into his skin. I do not know how my mother figured it out in time but I think it was the AWFUL smell:o He was lucky they didn't have to be surgically removed.
