My baby has a chromosonal defect? She's HERE & HEALTHY! Post 355!!!

Wow..haven't been on in forever...
Our last visit told us Ella was measuring a little small, so they wanted to continue monitoring her... Then our regular dr told us she was a tad small, but no worries...
Well, the past 2.5 days I had a major nasty virus (my son was in ER for 10 hrs getting IV's of fluid for dehydration)... I had my appt with the specialist today, and she said Ella is still measuring quite small (8th percentile) so they want to monitor her weekly now. Said if it comes down to it, they'd rather get her out to help her than keep her in... I hope it doesn't come to that...but I'm at 7 months now, so it should be a bit safer. They only guesstimate her weight at 1lb 13oz tho...
Anyways, the dr sends me to triage at the hospital because she can tell due to this virus I am dehydrated and the baby's heartrate was a bit slow. So, get to the hospital and turns out I"m having small contractions. They beleive it to be related to the dehydration. They give me some fluids and monitor her heartrate and my contractions. After the fluids, all seems to be better.

I go back to both my regular dr and the high risk dr on the 14th and hope that she has a growth spurt. What's so bad is..I lost 5 lbs in these last couple days... and I wasn't gaining enough as it is..

Keep us in your thoughts!
Thanks

We're still here with you and sending prayers your way. Thanks for keeping us updated. Hopefully Ella will put on a few pounds between now and her birthday! Stay positive and take good care of yourself. :goodvibes

Just wanted to add - some babies are just small. My dd, who was born 11 days before her due date was 5 lbs 5 oz and 18 inches. My son was born 2 days before his due date and was 6 lbs 6 oz and 20 1/2 inches (he was kind of a stringbean.) They were both perfectly healthy in every way - just a bit small.

Both are average size now - actually they are both a bit tall.

Anyway, I hope all is well.

please know that you have my prayers as you near the birth of your precious ella. your willingness to share your experience may well be an inspiration to someone else who faces possible problems with their pregnancy. best wishes to you and your family.

Thankyou for the updates, I continue to keep you and your little one in my thoughts.

Big koala cuddles to you all.

Trish

Hopefully Ella is due for a growth spurt right about now. :goodvibes

Thanks for the update. We're all thinking of you.

Babies born at 7 months and at 1 lb 13 oz are very strong little babies and can make it out side thier mom if they have to. DGD was born 12 weeks early and was 1 lb 13 oz. She did just fine and is now almost 16. She has no learning or physical disabilities if you don't include the "teenage rebellious learning disability"!! I think most of them come with that one though.:confused3

Good luck to you and your precious little one. We will be thinking and praying for you both.

My dd was small as well in utero. She was born 5 weeks early at 16 1/2" and 4lbs 12ozs. I was hospitalized in my 7 & 8 months due to preterm labor.

She was labeled SGA or "small for gestational age" at birth.

Naturally as she got older and did not grow she was put on growth hormone. She is 12 today and did make it to a height of 4' 11", which really is a success for her.

I didn't hit 5 feet tall until I was in high school...then I grew another 2 inches while I was in college!

Preemie babies do seem to be strong. We mentioned that to the nurses at some point while my son was in the NICU (He was just born in October-10 weeks early) and they agreed that preemie babies do have a tendency to be physically strong. Jacob is now 3 months old, and a whopping 7 lbs, but he can hold himself up on his arms now completely, not just his head, and if he's on his back he can push his whole body up with his feet. He's also mastered the art of moving like an inchworm, and scoots all over his crib:rotfl:

Dd7 was induced 10 days early, 21 1/2 inches, 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and now that she's almost 8, she is almost 48 inches tall, about 45 pounds! :rotfl2: Once she was born, she stopped growing!

She is almost done growing. Her bones are almost 100% fused together so she cannot have any "spurts". This year is her last year of growth, period. She may hit 5ft, although it is not looking like it. She stopped the growth hormone.

So, now I'm 7.5 months, and FINALLY and yesterdays appt, things looked GREAT! She gained 1 lb in the past 2 weeks, and all her measurements measure according to term. She's approx 2lbs 14oz, heart rate is good, she's doing her own breathing and there is no cleft lip (another thing they thought could be a possibility in the testings)

She's moving a bunch and we have her room almost done!!!

:)

What wonderful news! :cheer2: Baby Ella is doing wonderfully! She'll be in your arms before you know it.:cool1:

I have been following your story from the beginning and continue to wish you all the best. Please keep the updates coming!

I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am for you. You and this baby are so blessed! :grouphug: You're doing so well and I am so so so happy for you!!

Wow it's so close now. Get some sleep! Good news all around.

Went to both doctors today...regular and high risk...

Good news is... The High Risk Doctor released us today...no need to go back! Ella is now in the 19th percentile and weighs approx 4lbs 3oz!! All her measurements are looking good, no cleft lip present and all her vitals and organs look great!

She is dropped pretty low, so we'll see if I make it to April 3rd....

Thanks everyone for the support! Although I am eternally grateful that all has worked out for us... this emotional roller coaster has made me so much stronger and so much more appreciative for all the good I have. I will never look at life the same, and for that, I think this journey was intended for me.
