A friend's friend's Dad just passed away and she got no money to even cremate him. So I thought I could help her by finding short term loans or something by the end of tonight and start posting again.

However, things are more complicated than it seems. So maybe for the next couple of days I won't be as active on the forum (or maybe not show up at all). I'm trying to raise money to help my friend's friend (whom come to think of it, I don't even know).

Sorry for not being able to help today and/or the next few days.

Cheers,
K

Wow, Kelly, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. Very honorable of you to help out. Heck, if I had any extra money, I'd help you all out... but I really don't, college budget :(

Hope everything works out ok, and look forward to your return to the boards.
Take care hon :teeth:

All the best, our prayers are with the family.
Way to jump in and help out.

We'll (at least some) :goodvibes miss you during your absense.

Sorry for your friend's loss; (or rather, your friend's friend); we'll miss you! Glad you let us know; we'd have been worried!

I hope everything goes smoothly with the money-raising! :goodvibes

just being online for about 30 minutes and gotta go again. Money raising is not going well at all. :( Just taking a break right now.

Very sorry to hear that, Kelly. Prayers and good wishes go out to his family. And good wishes to you too, Kelly.

Very sorry to hear about your friend's friend. Good luck to you in your fund raising efforts. God bless.

Thank you guys for the good-luck and best wishes. It's not successfull at all yesterday, I'm trying again today. I'm just here this morning to reply some posts and I'll be off again.

No matter what we have to find a way so he can be cremated no later than this coming Tuesday so we have to put the money down to the cremation house no later than 8pm tonight :(

Kelly, does she have a credit card she can use? We had to do that to pay for my dad. We had no money, and his wife wouldnt pay for it. Has she checked with other places to see if she can find a better rate? I know that sounds odd and tacky, but places that just do cremation and not full funeral services are often cheaper.

Thanks guys, I'm finally done with all these fund-raising attempt. It's a big failure. So in the end, I just used my CC to pay for whatever money we can't come up with.

My friend's friend is less fortunate, the family is literally living in debt with no credit card. Even for the cheapest cremation (no service) it's costing them about US$2400.

I just realized how crazy our government is. The cremation alone is $600, but the gov't have changed the law that one can no longer use cardboard casket, but a wooden one. Something that adds $400 to the bill. Plus the exorbitant $1000+ to move the body from the hospital morgue to the funeral home. Last but not least, another $400 for "license to transport the deceased". Making it worse, on top of all that, we got to pay 14% taxes.

Apparently in Canada we are taxed to our death... literally :(

Now about paying off the credit card is a different story. I have to find a lot of extra work to do so.

Regardles... IM BACK! and thank you for all your support!

yeah that's crazy.. my dad's was about that but that was including interment, plot, service, plaque etc

this doesn't even include the urn and this is already the absolute cheapest price.
What I hate most is the law that requires wooden casket and transport license. What the heck is that? It was okay to use cardboard casket until about 4 years ago. I can understand if there is viewing before the cremation... but direct transport from morgue to the crematorium. Furthermore, since we're only allowed by law to transport the body using either a licensed hearse (from the funeral home/crematorium) or an ambulance, why should we pay $400 for transfer license?... and an additional 14% tax on top of that!

Wow! That is a lot of extras tacked on. Funny how governments and industry work like that.

the industry is not that bad, the license to transport the deceased and all the taxes added on top of all that plus a wooden casket being compulsory, they sicken me.

Isn't it more energy saving and better for the environment too if they allow cardboard casket instead of wooden? Why don't they need license to transport a DB from (say) an accident / crime scene, or even from home to the hospital but need one from hospital / home to mortuary/cremation house?

Wow! That's insane! Our local ME uses a pickup truck with a canopy. They can transport two bodies at a time. No special expensive technology required. I'm amazed that they can charge that much for what is essentially a specialty taxi service. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

Did you try asking for assistance from your church? Here in california you can still use a cardboard box IF there will be no viewing.

Did you try calling the Neptune Society?

I am going to be cremated (already pre-paid) with my ashes scattered in Hawaii. One of my friends already bought her urn and had a picture of Goofy engraved on the side of it because she says, "I am goofed up!"

yes, but the redtape is crazy. On the other hand, I don't know what is 'The Neptune Society".

I was thinkiong about pre-paying my cremation too, but not knowing which country I'll end up making it difficult. My dream is to somebay go back to Australia.
