My AKV Concierge waitlist came through! Automatic waitlist glitch?

Some of you may remember that I accidentally spaced out calling at exactly the 11-month mark for part of my annual Christmas/NYE trip. I called the very next day and I was only able to get 12/19-12/20 in a Concierge Studio but the rest of the days were not available. So, I booked a back-up reservation and put myself on the waitlist.

I had the following reservations
AKV Concierge Studio 12/19 - 12/20
AKV Sav View Studio 12/20 - 12/23

WAITLIST - AKV Concierge Studio 12/20 - 12/23

After a couple of days I thought it would be nice to be in a 1BR instead but I didn't want to give up my studio so I booked:

AKV Concierge 1BR 12/21 - 12/23

WAITLIST AKV Concierge 1BR 12/20 - 12/21

(I was going to stay at the studio on 12/19)

Well ... my studio waitlist came through and they automatically canceled the AKV Sav View Studio (which was correct) but the ALSO canceled the AKV Conc. 1BR. *hrumph* I found this out when I went into check my reservations today. I guess that's now how I expected it to happen. I expected the 1BR to remain in place and the Sav View Studio to go away. It's not really a big thing since I we decided to save points and cancel the 1BR anyway.

So ... is this the way the automatic waitlist is supposed to work? If so then it might not bode well for people who book different categories for different family members on the same trip. That 1BR *could* have been booked for a member of my family and not for me and now it's gone.

The waitlist worked the way it was set up. Sounds like you and the CM didn't completely understand each other.

If you wanted to have two rooms, the waitlists could have been set up to NOT cancel the 1 bedroom when the studio came through.

Glad it worked out for you in the end.

I could swear I told the CM NOT to cancel the 1BR if the Studio came available. Oh well, I'm happy with the studio. My DH was hoping for the 1BR, but I am a miser with my points and there are only 3 of us so we'll fit fine. We certainly won't need the kitchen with the concierge goodies down the hall!

I don't have an answer for your waitlist question but just wanted to say I agree that you will probably find the studio will do just fine for your stay. We usually book a 1BR for our DVC stays but due to having a small number of AKV points, I booked a studio for our AKV Concierge stay and it worked out fine for us. The DVC rooms are so close to the lounge that it felt like an extension of our room and gave us a feeling of having more space. And as you said, with the goodies available in the lounge, there is less need for a kitchen. The only thing we missed was having a whirlpool tub to soak in after a day in the parks. But given that one of the Concierge 1BRs has a roll-in shower and no tub, there is a 1-in-5 chance that after spending the extra points for a 1BR you might still end up without a tub!

I totally agree. We booked at 1 bedroom CL room the first time, and we really didn't feel we needed the space, so our CL stay in December is going to be a studio. Also, the free laundry is so close to the CL rooms, it's almost like having it in your room too.

Thanks for the info in this post. We'll be in a Concierge level studio from Dec 26th - Jan 3rd and wondered if the studio would work for us. We'd been going with a 1 bedroom or most of our DVC stays recently, but decided to go with a studio over Christmas because of points.
Hope to see some of you there! :)

I think the studios are the most popular Concierge room type so I wish they had made more of them and fewer 2BR lockoffs during the conversion. For example, instead of five 2BR lockoffs, they could have made four 2BR lockoffs and three dedicated studios. I think that would have worked out better.

I like the 2 bedrooms. I don't like the studio's since we always have way too many people to fit in them. I would ahve loved to have a grand villa concierge room ! Now that would be the way to go!!

That would have been a great idea and there was already precedence for dedicated studios in the Value category. Heck, I think that having all the Pool View rooms as dedicated studios would have been the way to go creating 6 dedicated studios instead of 2 2-bedrooms. More owners could enjoy Concierge level with two more rooms available for booking.

I'm waitlisted for an AKV Concierge Studio for the same dates! When did yours come through? I hope this means I moved up the wait list!

The waitlist came through in mid-March but I didn't get the paperwork until April when we were on vacation. When did you put yourself on the list?

About a week after the 11-month window opened. I'm a new owner and I did think about Concierge when I first made my Christmas ressies. I have AKV Savanna view for those days, and about a week later I realized that I should have asked for Concierge. So now we are waitlisted. It will be nice if it comes through, but not a crisis if it does not.

That's not bad then. I was on the waitlist 1 day into the 11-month window. There is plenty of time for people to change their plans. Good luck!
