My 7 Month Vacation as a WDW Intern: MINI UPDATE 12/10

I'd ask him. If you ever want a truly open relationship with a guy, you need to be open yourself, honest, and take a few risks. It won't change his feelings for you if you ask. You will just know. If you are just friends, that is not the end of hope for romance. That could still happen later. If he does have feelings, it could get things going. Even if he is dating other girls, he may still like you.

I dated others while dating my husband. I did ask how he felt. He didn't feel the same way, so he said ...at first. I had also asked another guy in college. He only meant to be friends. We are still dear friends 25 years later.

If you vow to yourself to be honest in all of your relationships, you will be blessed.

Oh, but do not chase him. Guys are hunters. Flirt, back away. flirt back away. (rinse and repeat! LOL) Basically show him you like him and then give him time and space to figure out you are what he wants. (The honesty here is letting him know you like him.)

So I don't know about you, but if I were you I would be jumping off the walls right now! You have TWO WEEKS!!
Well, I found some thing to get you EXTRA pumped! Disney radio that plays songs from the parks!!!

if you have itunes its in the radio menu under pop> dis radio
if you dont have itunes I think you can go here to listen to it podcast. wdwinfo. com

(sorry about the spaces. I dont have enough posts to post a link...so i'll trick the system lol)

Jellyd- I work in PO- merchandise, no the magic hasn't been lost for me. Sometimes honestly, I do think "Why am I here?" when I am at work and deal with a rude guest. But I think part of the reason I haven't lost the magic, is because I am at a resort with set hours, if I was working at one of the parks I might feel differently about it.

Megan- Boys are so strange. I wish I had some advice for you but I don't.

Thanks for the reply!! lol.

I think I'd let things go for the moment. Once you get to Florida I'd just text him letting him know your back and then leave the ball in his court. If he wants to persue things, then he'll definitely follow-up now that your close by. If not...well...then you have your answer. I agree with PP...men are strange! :confused3 I do hope things work out though. I'll keep my fingers crossed! ;)

Good advice!!!

I TOTALLY think he's interested. I am not sure he knew how to say anything else and wasn't ready to deal with saying good-bye before you left. Now, that you have left... he realizes jusrt how much a part of his life you were. As for why he hasn't messages back. Who knows... he IS a boy after all. ;)

I am keeping my fingers crossed! I love me a happy ending!

Very good advice!!! I wish my friends were more detailed like all of you!!

Good advice!!! Any news on maybe moving to FL?? I hear it's going to be in the 90s all week, I'm sooo pumped to get back..not so much thrilled about moving in with 90 degree temps but I guess we can crank the air since we're playing a flat rent rate!

Thanks so much for responding! That is awesome. I do have Itunes and use them all the time. I'm a huge radio person but since my antena (sp?) broke off when I used a car wash in FL, I will have to use my Ipod and CDs more now since Honda wants $200+ to fix it :(

I'm going to go check that out right now!

I loved reading about your experiences in the CP and now can't wait to hear more about your PI experiences. We are going to be in WDW June 28 - July 4. I will keep a lookout for you when we are in AK.

I have an idea for you on your packing that might help you stay under the weight limits. If you get too close to the limit look into getting a flat rate box from the post office. They cost $12.95 to send but you can pack upto 25 lbs in them. I used these to send stuff to my friend in Guam. They are a lifesaver when it comes to postage. These boxes may help with all of that stuff from Bath and Body.

I can't wait to hear more of you adventures and hope to see you in AK.

Sorry to bug you about this again but I was on the website to look into this box thing. I had bought my own box at the grocery store but if I buy their box I will pay the $12.95 and that is it unless the weight is over 20lbs?

I just want to check all of these options out before I go to the P.O. and I'm lost lol.

Can I purchase their boxes at the P.O. and pack my things at home and bring it back and it will still be $12.95 or do I have to pack all of my things in the box at the P.O.? I am also sending my college roomie some Bath & Body goods to her house in SC so I think that box will be a great idea although it won't need to be as big as the boxes I will need..maybe the shoebox one will work great for those.

Thanks again for that advice..it is perfect!

The boxes from the post office are free for the priority flat rate shipping-just go to the post office and ask them for some. The $12.95 is what you pay for postage once you bring the filled box back to the post office to ship it. You don't have to fill your box at the post office-do that at home.

thanks! This is a whole new experience for me lol. I think that rate is the best bc for me to weigh the box it would be way over 13 bucks! Do you know about how many days it would take for my box to get to FL. I'm moving into the house on the 18 so I would like to get the box anytime from the 18, 19th, 20th..something around there. I was just wondering what day I should go to the PO to ship the boxes.

Thanks again!

The flat rate boxes are for priority mail shipping, so you should have your stuff in three days or less from the time it is shipped. I do a lot of shipping from home and use the post office priority shipping all the time-its great, especially for the flat rate boxes, you can pack a lot of stuff in there for the money.

Megan and Ex,

So as veteran CPer's I need to ask. After the 1st month or 6 weeks did the magic ever wear off and you realized you were really just doing a job and maybe a very mundane one at that? I imagine if someone 3 years into a degree headed down to FL with the best of intentions finds themselves 6 weeks into cleaning tables at a counter service 5 days a week that it must get depressing. I'm sure it's fun and all but did it ever get to you?

Thanks,
Rick:dance3:
i can tell you the magic never wore off for me. i loved every second. sometimes were stressful yes, but i loved it. and my job pretty much was really difficult. I was the only CP'er, everyone else was perm. But i made friends quickly at work. The job itself was hard- i had little training because we were so busy. I worked at Hollywood and Vine when it was a cafeteria- served breakfast and lunch only. no dinner. So my hours were early usually- like 5 or 6am in peak season (i worked during the holidays). Sometimes i would be stuck in the kitchen all day- putting trays of food in the fridge, or washing silverware. I wouldn't even see a guest. Those days were hard. Other days I had to bus tables or close which was really hard. My costume was awful too- light green and light pink with a hairnet and apron- i think they still wear these 12 years later! I came home filthy every night, especially if I served food that day, cafeteria lady style. :rotfl2: But even that didn't take the magic away from me.

It was a treat every morning to walk through the empty and freshly cleaned streets of MGM on my way to work. The guest interaction I had, i absolutely loved. I almost wished I had been in custodial, since they get to roam freely/independently and answer a lot of guest questions while out and about (besides cleaning up the routine protein spill, ewww!). Getting to be backstage everyday was just awesome. I would see and meet new people in the cafeteria everyday, get to read the cast member newsletter etc. It was just so cool to be backstage and see areas guests don't see. It didn't ruin the magic, it only made it that much stronger for me.

While the job was mundane and way below my skill level at that point- i was one class away from my bachelors in marketing.......it was still fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the seminars we attended and I tried to network a lot. I shadowed my managers and a few folks outside my job too. The overall experience was well worth it. I had already completed 2 actual marketing internships in prior summers, so I felt this wasn't a waste- I was still able to have fun and gain some experience outside the job- how to interact with people, provide excellent guest service etc. The way Disney applies guest service is next to none and I was thrilled to learn that. I still utilize many tricks I learned to this day in communicating with people, whether they speak English or not, including large Brazilian tour groups. :rotfl:

btw- I am curious what the 'quit early' rate is for the program. I remember hearing of lots of kids quitting or wanting to go home early, for one reason or another. We were good friends with the guys across the hall from us at Vista Way and one did leave early. I guess it is the first time away from home for some, others might hate their roommates or their jobs. And I am sure for some, the magic is 'ruined'. But I think if you truly love disney like I do and like Megan does, the magic is only enhanced. ;)

2 weeks! yeah, i am so excited for you!

PC- hmmmmm....it is so hard to figure out men, women and relationships sometimes. I would say, give it time, keep in contact and when you feel ready, talk openly about whether he does have a girlfriend or not and if he does have interest in you beyond a friend. I know those conversations are awkward, but at your age, you should be past the games and ready to talk openly and honestly, so your expectations of the friendship (or more) are aligned. He sounds like a really great guy!!! I can't wait to hear what unfolds. Btw- all my roomies were single on my CP. My roomie sort of dated one guy across the hall. I had a serious BF at the time (now DH). The one roomie that has continued to work there til this day (for almost 15 years now)- just recently finally found her PC, it just took a while! And my other roomie ended up coming out to us after our CP was over and we had come back for the WDWCP 15 year reunion. I had no clue she was gay, never suspected. Poor thing was deathly afraid of our reactions, but we all loved her no matter what. I wish she would have felt comfortable telling us when we lived together, but I can imagine how tough it was for her (she had a hard time telling her strictly Catholic family).

btw- last time DH and i were at AK, we sat through an educational thing on giraffes sort of near the safari area. I am guessing that CM did probably what you will be doing? There was a small seating area there, but it was all outside and people just stopped as they walked by to listen. It was very interesting, she had props too. If that is what you are doing- it should be a lot of fun!! Interacting with guests was my favorite part of the job.

I had a friend who quit the CP program early. Her mother was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, so she went home to help out.

Megan...I can't believe you're going back so soon! I'm trying to picture what you are going to be doing. Is it those little tables they have set up and you stamp the passport thing after the kids do an activity? After all my hours spent at AK, I've seen ONE of those things (on the walkway to the petting zoo). I had to find some bugs in a "backyard" and I got a stamp. I never did find any of the other stations. Is this what you are going to be doing? Or something else?

Two of my roommates left about 2 months into our program. One left because she didn't like it here and hated her job and the other left because she wasn't getting credit from her school.

Thanks so much for the help. I guess, I'll ship it on Monday and I'm flying out Tues and moving in on Wed so I should get it by Wed or Thurs which would be fine. Thanks again for your help, what a life savor!

With not a ton of ppl that get accepted into the program, it's hard to actually pin-point what I'll be doing. I guess I'll know in 2 weeks? It builds suspense here!!

HI DIS!!!!

Guess what?! Tomorrow is Friday so yay for all you workers out there, it's finally your weekend!!!!!!!

I do have some updates to share with you and some other comments I have recived which I'm going to touch on in this post as well.

First of all, my post I recieved about Dis Radio on Itunes. I LOVE IT!!! I'm listening to it right now but in a hushed tone because my parents are sleeping..they have to work tomorrow so I have to be considerate of course! The only thing I don't like about it, is that I don't know the title of the songs :( Most of them I should know but others I don't. I'm pretty sure right now a song is on from Epcot!!

The post about the CP and CMs staying. I don't know exact numbers. I do know that if CPs quit, it is usually within the first month. Some very common reasons for quitting or termination are: Drinking underage, homesickness, don't like the job, calling off too much, and don't like the roommates. Unless you LOVE to shop tons, I really haven't heard ppl quit bc they can't afford it. No one in my apt quit or was terminated. At BBB, I won't give exact reasons but basically we started off with 15 CPs, when I left May 15, we were only left with 6 so between Jan 7-May 15 that is how many quit..so if you came on a day that we were really behind it could be bc a CP quit or was terminated :( Needless to say this semester at BBB they are only taking 5 CPs bc as a CP you can't be replaced and at BBB you can't just pull people from other locations like you can in a store or restuarant.

My post about PC..well he actually txted me today. I was quite shocked. He said he has been busy and I asked if he was upset with me about the last night and he said "no, lol, I have no reason to be upset with you". I did make the comment about how he must be busy bc he's never online anymore and he said "ya, I'm not really in my apt as much now." I'm not really sure what that comment was supposed to mean?! Boys?!!!!!

Okay lets see..oh ya..my title of the post!!!!

8+pgs of Scripted Presentations.

Pretty much going into this, I really have no idea what my job will be. I know of the stations but I don't know where. I know I have to give scripted presentations but I don't know of what or where.

Well, tonight I got one tiny step closer to my PI. I checked my email after babysitting and it was from AK PI.

The title was Scripted Presentations. I thought..oh no.....

I opened it up and it was the manager who is in charge of the scripted presentations that I will have to give...

The attachment she sent..

8 pages long.:scared1:  I say 8 because that is only 2 of 3 presentations. The bottom of the email stated "it is not required that you memorize these before you come but to give you a tool if you want to get a head start". Well seeing as I have NO life until I go back to WDW, I figure it will be to my advantage to memorize these scripts.

I can't post the scripts bc of copyright laws but I will give you basic info incase you want to visit me at them in the park. The first is at Harambe School which it states that it is near the Safari ride. The school is 15 mins of a presenation about invertebrates from Africa. I have no clue what time this is but it is only once a day. I will be presenting with another PI and we will have the "bugs" on hand to show and touch...:scared1:

The other that I got is in Dinoland USA. It is about a T-Rex named Sue and its a dino that is the most complete dino in the world. Once again, I'm not sure of times but it is twice an hour and in Dinoland but I'm not sure of an exact location. When I have been to Dinoland, I do usually one thing and one thing only...Dinosaur!!!:scared1:

So if you have visited either of the presentations let me know what you thought and if you liked them.

I still have no news about the stations. I will probably won't know anything until training.

Well..I guess that is all the news for now. It's going to be 92 tomorrow in Pittsburgh so I guess I'll lay outsie and start to memorize scripts. I have not memorized a script since I did musicals in high school I'm thinking of using my dad's voice recorder and matching up that to the scripts.

If you have any other advice let me know. The Dino one is wayy shorter so I may start with that one.

I hope you have a sunny and *magical* weekend!!!

Megan, I think it is a great idea to take the initiative and start memorizing the scripts now, will make the start of the program much less stressful for you and will impress your supervisors.

I'll be in WDW in August and will definitely be keeping an eye out for you while in AK.

That sounds like so much fun! What a perfect match for your teaching background/education!

I hope you have some nice weather. We have hot, cloudy soup here in NJ and a heat warning for the weekend. temps up to 100???

The PI scripts sound a little overwhelming, but I bet you'll have them nailed in no time. Its one less thing you'll have to worry about when you get to Disney. I never attended any of the presentations-that I can remember. Although now I'll be seeking them out when we are at AK next.

Sorry that I did not get back to you yesterday. But as a previous poster said you can get the box and take it home to pack. I recommend the larger box that is more square. I have tried using both sizes and I have always fit more into the square box than the other. When you go to the post office just make sure that you pick up the box marked flat rate priority! I accidentially packed stuff into one of the regular priority boxes one time and was going to be over $20!!:scared1: So I had to take the box back home and repack in the flat rate box. The boxes are marked in big letters flat rate but I was in a hurry and did not pay attention, lesson learned pay attention to the boxes.

WOW that is alot of reading and memorizing to do for your PI. I agree with starting with the shorter one. It will help you get back into memorizing stuff so when you finish you will be confident to start on the next one. I know that you will do great. Thanks for posting about where you will be at. I would love to meet a Diser while on vaction and will look for you when we are there in 21 days!!!!:yay: We still have not decided what days we will be at AK yet but hopefully we will have that planned out next week.

Hi Megan!

I can't believe it is almost time for you to go. You must be getting excited. The scripts sound interesting. I haven't seen either one of the presentations you mentioned. The only one I saw was on the trek in Asia. It was pretty interesting.

I am sure you will do really well on whichever one you end up with.

As far as PC, who knows what is going on there. I would probably text him letting him know that you want to meet up with him once you arrive. Hopefully once you get there things will become clear.

Just wondering, did he extend his CP?

Great job on your craft items. My daughters thought they were fantastic!!!

I hope you are enjoy the wonderful weather. It is 93 here in central NY too but it has been raining off and on all day. :(

When I moved from college, I UPSed all my stuff. It must've been cheap, cuz I was poor.:)

Wow!! That is warmer than PA. We had tons of rain and storms the past 2 days but today was a beautiful day but I think we have a slight chance of rain and storms tonight :(

Thanks for the reply!

Once again, I feel like I'm going into this blind bc I have no idea the training schedule or locations..I guess it leaves suspense??

Thanks for the reply!! PC did extend his CP. He was supposed to leave on May 23 and is staying until at least the middle or end of Aug. I know he only has a year or maybe even just a semester left so who knows?!

I'm glad ur DDs liked my crafts!! I guess it's good that I made them when I did seeing as now I have to spend time on these scripts!

When I moved from college, I UPSed all my stuff. It must've been cheap, cuz I was poor.:)

That is good to know too..thanks!
