My 4 year old daughter has just been in the hospital for a week with a gallbladder problem. She was sent home with a drain bag and hopefully in a few weeks she will go back in to get her gallbladder removed. She is currently on an extremely low-fat diet. Even good fats (i.e. extra virgin olive oil, nuts) are bad for her. I'm told that after the gallbladder comes out, she will still need to watch her fat for a while.

That brings me to my problem - we are booked for Disney at the end of September. Can the restaurants prepare her food with out oil, butter, margarine, etc?

If she gets her gallbladder out by the middle of August, she should be good to go by the end of September. By then you should be able to introduce a bit of fat into her diet, and just avoid the really heavy stuff like fried food, butter sauce, greasy meat (sausage, pork, ground beef) and creamy salad dressings. If you have it noted on your reservation that there is a food 'allergy' (not really an allergy, but definitely a reaction!) the chefs at the table service restaurants will be alerted, and should come to see what they can do to help you. Quick service is a different story, but there should be a notebook with ingredients that you can ask to access there.

Hope she feels better soon, and that you all have a great vacation!

I had my gallbladder removed a little over 7 years ago.

There are still some foods I cannot eat without feeling sick to my stomach. This is due to the fact that your body has nowhere to store the bile, and so it doesn't have a large supply on hand to break down foods that are high in fat anymore.

That being said, I went to WDW the last two years, and was able to find options without a lot of grease. I did let the waiters know that I had a low tolerance for any sort of grease/oil and they were very good about accomodating my request, or steering me in the way of an option that would be good.

HTH!!!!

oh bless:hug:
i had my gallbladder removed 12 months ago and am still struggling (1% chance after op)
fat free food is available quite commonly due to the amount of dieters at wdw.
choose your cs meals wisely, healthier options are available at SS at epcot, MSB and FTB amongst others.
dont forget you can sub fruit for fries at cs, and there are low fat yogurts as well as dole whips which are v fat free, and there is fat free ice cream at the parlour on main st.
pop over to the restaurant boards as this is a frequent subject over there;)
i hope she is better soon, be aware than when i had a flair up even bread caused agony:sick:, i lived on ham/chicken and non acidic fruit (bananas and raisins)
worst few weeks of my life, pain is worse than child birth:scared1:
tracy
