My 4th running life !! (Comments Welcome)

I like the blue! But then, I prefer my running shoes to come in bright colors, and I can't understand why anyone would ever wear white running shoes unless they only run on the treadmill. 😂

I usually go for a darker colour, but I do agree on the white to hard to keep clean.

I think I do like the blue they look quite fancy and fast 💨

I don't have strong opinions on shoe colors, I usually just buy whatever is available/cheaper. However, I refuse to wear boring running socks. Those are easily obtained in fun and bright colors. One of my local running stores was shocked about this and disappointed that I had zero interest in their white and black selection.

Haha, at the Springtime Surprise expo I stocked up on Feetures socks and I also refused to get plain white or black.

I might get some bright socks to go with the shoes 👍

Hi All

Only 2 runs in the books for this past week. Totalling 9 miles.

All was well on them no particular issues just steady runs injury free.

An easy week this week on run up to my Half on Sunday. I am fairly sure my B goal of 2.30 finish may be a little optimistic but we will see but I wont be mad either way.

Had been feeling a bit down about missing a few runs and probably wont hit 100 miles for April as I had hoped, went out for 3 miles today and having had 3 days off it felt hard and came back feeling a bit apprehensive about the race.

When I checked Garmin my fitness age improved another year and it got me thinking that although the Data can be sometimes not accurate it can show improvements where otherwise just running times don't show it.

I have ran significantly more in last 2 months than have in a long time back to 2022/23 to find similar. Since December My VO2 has improved from 35 to 38 and my fitness age from 62 to 52. I have reduced my weight by 7.5%. I also achieved Peaking status on Garmin although that is now gone replaced with maintaining 😭

Whilst I didn't complete the training plan 100% I did the majority and will arrive at the start line injury free. To quote @jmasgat Injury Free = Perfect training.

I will travel on Saturday about 4 hours by train collect our Bibs and a traditional Pasta dinner. On race day i plan to find the 2hr 30 Pacers and use Run/Walk and see if I can hang with them or at least keep within striking distance.

Have a great week all.

Way to crush your plan! I always feel weird on my first run after a little break - you should be back to normal by race day for sure. Good luck!

It’s been a week of aches and pains , first my left wrist has became very painful when lifting etc , weird but no big deal as I do t need it for running 🏃 😂

Few days later my right shoulder has flared up again which is caused by a lymphoma pressing on nerves, coincidentally I got a call on Thursday scheduling the removal in about 4 weeks from now, still not really impeding running as some paracetamol takes the edge off.

Last but most worrisome is my knee pain caused by loss of cartilage due to again has started giving me some minor pain as of yesterday. It has when fully there kept me sidelined for months so fingers crossed it holds up until at least after tomorrow.

I was wondering if I had any shot at my 2.30 goal time given weight loss is not as good as I had hoped and checked back over previous runs. In 2021 I ran 2.30 at Rock and Roll Liverpool when I was 5lbs lighter than now, but my training has been better on the run up to this so I am hopeful.

Forecast is light wind sunny and 52 degrees at the start and 57 degrees 2hrs 30 later.

I will try and hang around 2.30 pacers with plan to go nice and easy for first third miles, then steady for next third then try and push pace off last third depending on how I feel.

Good luck tomorrow. Hope the body cooperates....give it a stern talking to for this last minute BS! 😉

Unfortunately a DNF for me today 😞 not even sure what went wrong. Son finished in 2 hrs so that was good.
Sometimes we just have bad days and while its disappointing, the best thing to do is to try to move onto the next thing. Not bad to maybe look back at diet and training runs before hand to see if anything was unusual. Like I said, sometimes its just not our day for no reason. Keep your head up and start looking forward to your next goal!

Thanks, I think there were a few contributing factors but main issue was my unrealistic assessment of where I was really at. Live and learn 🤷‍♂️

Hi folks

Not much to report on last week only one 3 mile run in the books.

Plenty of time to reflect on my DNF in the half.

Whilst there were a few not ideal things leading up to it the main issue was my slower than anticipated weight loss over the 7 weeks training cycle meant a 2.30 was unrealistic however I somewhat buried my head in the sand and went out for that anyway and when I started to slow at mile 5 I knew I would be looking at 2.40 plus and any motivation completely vanished.

The hardest part of the course was ahead and having run it twice before I just stopped.

I am not in the habit of doing so have only done it once before I’m more than 20 races at least.

Mentally from the moment I awoke on race morning I just didn’t want to even start I was so mentally not up for it but I talked myself up and got to the start and off I went.

There were some factors that maybe contributed a bit but in such a small way not worth mentioning.

I had convinced myself it was viable as I had managed a 2.30 at a similar weight and training level but that was 3 and a half years ago.

So time to draw a line and think about what is next.

I had planned for this year to be all about the Half but the lack of suitable races near me in autumn is a problem, we have my daughters wedding in July a Disney trip in September and quite a few weekends away so another weekend trip is not ideal.

I have decided to focus instead on 5k as I can regularly attend the local park runs and with a training plan that keeps the longer runs so I can step back up to HM hopefully lighter, fitter and faster for a spring 26 HM.

Priority Number 1 - Weight Management
Priority Number 2 - Train Consistently
Priority Number 3 - Strength Training

Of these weight management is Number one primarily because my shoulder procedure has been brought forward and is now only 10 days away and that may restrict running for a bit.

So I will do what I can in next 10 days and then see what options I have after
the procedure.

Hope you’re all having a great week
