Our DS3 had tubes put in when he was 14 months old. It was the best thing we have ever done for him. Solved all of his problems with ear infections, fluid and torticollis (weak neck muscle). One tube has fallen out but the other is still in place.
Our DS9 had his adnoids taken out when he was 3. The surgery went smoothy, however, he had to have a double dose of surgery since he was bleeding 3 hours post op. The surgeon wanted to keep him over night, but DS was adament he wanted to go home. We figured the best thing was to take him home and would have returned to the hospital if more complications would have developed. Well, we left the hospital and DS said he was hungry and pointed out a Wendy's. Against our better judgement, we stopped and he ate an entire kids meal. He was groggy when we got home but was ready to play up a storm the next day. That was the hardest part, keeping him from acting like a normal, rambuncious child for the next couple of days.
Best of luck with your little one. I remember how difficult it was to hand both of our DS's over the nurse and walk away. I'm sure they are use to seeing emotional parents.
