This weekend while waiting in line at a store, I noticed my DD had a couple of gray hairs! We were inside, so I looked again when we went outside and sure enough there they were. She recently started letting her hair grow out and started parting it in a different area, so these hairs really have not been exposed to the sun very much and she has medium brown hair. When I told her, she immediately pulled them out (they were very long). I am 37 and just found my first gray/white hair in the last couple of months.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Yes, things are stressful around our home, as I am going through a divorce, and recently moved.

My DD is now fourteen but has had a few gray hairs here and there ever since she was little. I've never really worried about it. If she started to turn totally gray I would. I've colored my hair since I was twelve, so I don't know if I have gray hair or not.

I started getting gray hair around 13 or so. It runs in my family, my mom started getting gray hair at that time also. Stress can sometimes temporarily turn hair gray as well, so if your 13 year old is feeling the stress, it can temporarily stop the pigment production.

I think one here and there is normal especially in a stressful environment. On my father's side, the women were grey - completely - in their early twenties. I'm getting there now too (I'm 35).

I'm very sorry about your divorce.

I started noticing stray gray hairs when I was 15 or 16. I had only a few until I was in my late 20s, but now at almost 36, I am about 20% gray.

I've had stray gray hairs since I was a kid. I'm now 40, and still only have strays. A little more though. :rolleyes1 But still not enough where I need to color.

Early Grey runs in my moms family. I'm 35 and have WAYYYYY more grey than my Dad. My mom's 54 and completely grey. A few strand of brown thrown in, but not much. I'm probably over that 50% mark. :scared:
(I've been dying mine for years too, so that might not be an accurate estimate...but when the roots grow in, I notice the shiny silver WAY more than the dark brown. :sad2:)

My mother and aunt both had dark brown hair and were gray early. But I took after my father with blonde/light brown hair and just found my first one. I guess she could be taking after my mother/aunt.

I had grey hair when I was 15. I'm 27 now and although I still have a few strands it's hardly something I worry much about.

I had my first gray hairs when I was in elementary school. My Mom turned Gray early and, unfortunately, so did I.

My 6 year old daughter has a couple of grey hairs and my 2 year old son has a couple also. It is not unusual for some hair not to have pigment.

Now I have beent turning grey since I was 15, started coloring my hair since my early 20's. From the texture of my hair now, my stylist thinks I am 100% grey and have been for some time. I am 43 years old and neither of my older sisters have has much grey nor the same hair color. My children don't have my hair color either.

So it isn't a big deal.

Hubby got a splotch of white hair when he was 17...since he has black hair otherwise, he looks like the reverse of Jay Leno.

A friend of mine from high school started greying from about 8th grade on, but her homelife was *incredibly* stressful, with A plusses being what was expected from her, along with violin, piano, and outside language classes.

all that said, the main color in my own hair is medium brown, and I've noticed that some of the lighter blond *looks* grey when it first starts growing, but once it comes in more you can see it is blond. So her hair might not be grey; it could just be a trick color.

The right side of my bangs started graying when I was 12. By my late 20s, I was completely gray. At 51, I still color my hair and because it grows fast, that means every 10 days I'm at the salon.

This is very common. And don't worry, your divorce probably has nothing to do with it. I see stray grays on kids all the time.

I first noticed one or two on my daughter when she was five. They seem to come and go. She has beautiful chocolate brown hair so I hope she doesn't end up prematurely gray like her dad. My husband started graying in high school. I am lucky so far. I am forty two and while I have a few at the temples, it isn't worth coloring. My mom is sixty-two and she is still about 90% brunette.

I'm 25 and started getting alot of grey hairs since 23. I try to pluck them out as much as I can.

I was talking with some one, and they said it's common for irish heritage to go grey early. ughhh so annoying. I don't like trying to color my hair or do anything to it at all. I wash it like twice a week or so (too long to wash it more often, don't have enough shampoo).

Totally normal. I remember my brothers and I having a few stray grays as kids. Mom just pulled them if she found them while rubbing our heads.

I have my dad's (Irish) coloring and he and his sister as well as his mom (the Irish one) all went gray in their 20s or so. I'm 33 and still have my same red hair. And totally grateful for it. :)

Don't worry about the couple of gray hairs... I'm sure your daughter is not going gray just yet.

I started going gray as a very young teenager, I had enough that I started coloring it when I was about 15, at 27 I'd say I'm 70% gray. One thing I'd watch if it really seems that she is graying prematurely (meaning she's getting more gray not just those few strands) I'd get her thyroid checked as prematurely gray hair can be a symptom associated with thyroid conditions, as it was for me.

I started getting greys in my teens, around 14 if I remember correctly. I don't get just grey, I get bright reflective silvery-white! I colored my hair for a long time but now in my 30s I let it go back to it's natural color: brown with silver highlights. The checkout girl at the grocery store asked me the other day if I had my hair "professionally done." When I asked for clarification, she said she loved my silver streaks.

My brother had a large grey spot on the side of his head, about the size of a golf ball, since was 9. In his early 20s he developed leukemia and when he underwent chemo all his hair fell out. When it grew back, the grey spot was gone.
