My 13yo boy has a moustache!

He didn't have one when we went to Orlando, last December. But I just looked at him today and it's definitely there. No mistake about it.

"You've got a moustache!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah," says the boy, grinning.

"Are you going to shave it?"

My boy immediately starts petting his upper lip. "Maybe," he says. "Maybe I'll let it grow long and curl it up like Salvador Dali."

At which point I threw my hands up and said, "It's your face, do what you want."

"Yay!"

Oy... I should have guessed he'd go all furry-faced. After all, it's been almost two years since he's cut his hair and he still loves his Franco-fro.

So, I'm wondering. What's your position on facial hair and teenaged boys? Do you allow it? Do you forbid it? Why, or why not?

I can't believe this is the same little boy hugging the dinosaur in my avatar! He's only thirteen and two months old!

My DS11 has a friend in his grade that has a full on mustache. I can see something starting with my DS as well.

My son is 15 and has had facial hair since around 12 or so. His is more on his chin (which he did shave for a while) but now he has a little bit a fur on his chin. Looks decent, not messy. I don't think I would ever forbid facial hair. I mean, it's who he is. If HE wants to shave it, then he can shave it, but I'm not going to tell him what to do to his face. LOL

My son is close to 15, and has been shaving for 2 years. His choice, I don't "forbid". I am happy though.

He also basically shaves his head also, goes with his sports. I think he is just lazy, lol, and this makes it all easier in the shower and no combing or brushing.

I think my son starting sprouting it around 12, just peach fuzz. I was not surprised coming from 2 dark parents.

My 11 year od ds has started growing a moustache. I just cannot believe how it seemed to happen over night! I'm not ready for the teen years...

Both boys were about that age. DS15 doesn't have much facial hair other than his mustache but even that isn't all that thick yet. The kids here do "no shave November" and he went a month without shaving and you could hardly tell DS18 just really had to start shaving his "face" this past summer and even then it was pretty much his lip and chin. When he was home from college for Christmas you could see some whiskers on his cheeks but still not much.

Ahh mom, your baby is growing up I remember when this happened with our sons. DH and I would have been ok with facial hair but their school definitely would not have been.

My DS (almost 13) has had one since he was 11. I thought he was too young to shave, so he uses a Personal Touch to remove it. I hate to say it, but he gets that from his mother.lol

My 13 y/o has been shaving his 'stache since he was 10.5! At that age, I pretty much made him shave since he looked like a total dork. Peach fuzz on a 10 y/o just isn't a good look. I think it would still look pretty goofy on him if he let it grow since he doesn't look at all grown up but it is his decision now. Thankfully, he still shaves it.

My DS10 has a noticeable moustache. Its very dark peach fuzz but you can tell its there. He started sprouting it last summer. Hes also getting that uni-brow. Which I pluck for him.

My DS11 started getting a stash about 8 months ago. My DH matured early as well. He also has very long hair. I figure, unless it's a safety hazard, let him do what he wants, it's self-expression. Oy, puberty and menopause at the same time in our house. Poor DH!!

My brother denied for over a year that he was growing a moustache...be glad your guy is willing to admit it!

DS had a noticeable moustache when he was 13 but didn't start shaving it until he was 14. It's not surprising since his dad could grow a full beard in grade 9.

My ds is blond like his dad, and he has serious fuzz on his upper lip. It's fairly light though but he hasn't shaved yet. We sorta tease him about it. If he wants facial hair, it's fine with me, because the only time my dh has shaved off his beard was our wedding day. (I look at our wedding pics and say "who is that guy I'm getting married to?" )

I can't imagine my babies growing facial hair~ they're 9,6

But~ and i know I'm in the minority here; but I will not allow them to grow any hair on their face~ shave it is Mommy's rule

I intensely dislike facial hair~ my DH had a mustache when we got married; and I hated it~ after 2 years I got him to shave it off.....

The whole voice changing reminds me what happened one weekend, my family and I had arrived to this wedding and my son (and his friend Monsieur Stache) thought he was hot stuff. I mean, a little bit of peach fuzz and a slightly deeper voice and suddenly he's Magnum PI. So,he sees one of his girl cousins brought a friend that he had a little crush on so he goes to sit next to her. He smiles and then the poor kid asks "Hey, WOU-ld you like to DAN-ce" voice cracking. I felt so bad but I had to laugh a little.

If they are old enough to grow it, they are old enough to shave it off. Or not.
