Ok so... we are tentatively (VERY tentatively) planning a trip in December. Can anyone suggest... is it a better idea to buy tickets to MVMCP ahead of time online or wait until you're on property?

DISers, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that if you purchase your tickets online ahead of time for a certain night (don't remember if certain nights are cheaper or not), there is a small discount. If you wait til you're on property, you run the risk of the party being at capacity and paying full price.

Even if there is no discount from purchasing online, you're playing it safe by knowing you have tickets. That being said, don't purchase the tickets until you're sure you're going, obviously!

Have a great trip! :)

I think you will find (much like any question about MVMCP) you will get a lot of varying opinions on this topic. I don't know what your situation is as far as having young children, but if you want to avoid a night that is sold out, I would wait until the night of the event. If you have park hoppers, I would spend the day at MK and wait until they start escorting people out. Then (as late as possible) go see if you can buy tickets. If it is sold out, you are better off than those that have already bought tickets and are about to find out what it is like with 25,000 people plus those that refuse to leave for $50 a ticket. If it is not sold out, then you can take a chance.

In addition to being able to avoid a sell out, you'll also be able to avoid wasting money on a bad weather night. That is my advice after having wasted $150 on MVMCP in Dec 2008.

I purchased my tickets in advance, I'm taking my niece on a short trip as a surprise and the main reason is to attend MVMCP. We're going mid November, so I really doubt we'll have a problem with it selling out, so I mostly did it so they'd be paid for and not something I'd have to worry about buying closer to the trip. I was able to purchase them and print out the tickets online. I just have to bring the printed tickets to the turnstyles to get into the party.

Can't wait to go and to surprise her with the trip!!:santa:

Ok so of the differing opinions I agree with all of them! I think that's my issue. See, I know you do get a discount for purchasing in advance and that made me think it'd be best to purchase them ahead of time, like when I book the trip... but the thought of it being a sold out crazy night or a bad weather experience also dawned on me too.

The week we'd be going (check in on Sunday 12/5, check out on Wednesday) is typically a slow week so I'm hoping for lower crowds. I'm thinking that I may get the tickets for that Sunday night. That way we've got time to relax after check-in and chill out and then head over to start our trip at the party. Our son is 4 years old (he'll be nearly 5 then) but he's been to WDW quite a lot and is already used to the crowds so I'm not too concerned there.

So I think my decision is to purchase when I book... but if it's crazy or it storms I'll make sure to come back and give credit to those who voted for waiting until we're there. :rotfl:
