I did it! I talked my DH into the 5+2 for AKL!!! I am sooooooo excited! Hope it isn't too crazy at WDW from September 19-26th. Anyways, this is my first time at the AKL. Can you tell me something(s) that I have to see or do at this resort? We will have plenty of time to relax since we will be there a week. I have heard the resturants are a must but what else did you enjoy there or wish you did? Thanks!

Do you have kids? If so check out the kids activities. I loved the culinary tour! It really gives you an appreciation of Boma and Jiko. I wished I had done the art tour of the lodge. There are really amazing works of art and just by talking to the CMs I learned about some of them but the tour would have been cool. Talk to the CM. You will get a lot of great information from them.

Walk down the halls and stop at the viewing stations, we saw so many more animals by going to the less crowded areas.

When you check - in one of the sheets they give you will detail resort activities. Take advantage and do a few. They have storytelling by the fire pit, cookie decorating at Boma, and I think I remember seeing the animal guides playing a game with the kids near Arusha Savannah. Definetly make sure you walk around to the different viewing areas on the savannahs. Not all the animals are on every savannah. The hotel itself is interesting to look at and has displays of African art and artifacts. We spent quite a bit of time at their pool too. Its zero-entry and was great with little ones. And yes the restaurants are very yummy!!! Have fun!!

There are 5 "Bead" activities for your kids to do. (my DD45 Loved theM) They have Each of them at the same time spreadout through the Day. After the first activitiy the get a String with a Bead , and after each one they get another Bead , After they complete them all the get to choose a larger Totem bead . It makes for a nice souvenier that doent cost a thing. The activiites were African Music, Flamingo Feeding, An African games, an Observation and tracking.
They CMS are great and you can spread it out over the trip.
They have African Rag doll Making on Fridays for a fee.
Cookie Decoarating at Boma in the Afternoon. My kids did some sort of Scavenger Hunt at the Pool and some other games.
There is a Board in the waiting area of Boma that lists all the different times and places of activities.
Firepit Storytelling was nice. Definitely do Boma for Breakfast and Dinner. Jiko is excellent also.

Taste of Africa!!!
This is a free activity, we did it with three kids and they even gave my son ice cream instead of the zebra dome. The tour takes a little over 30 minutes and includes a walk through of the bar and then a taste at Jiko and Boma! It was hard to find the 'tour' guide and we had to ask a few CM's about it. Make sure to ask a CM about anything you want to do, a few things ended up having last minute time or location changes.
Oh and the night vision goggles are cool and it only takes a few minutes.
We spent two entire days just poking around and swiming and eating at AKL and didn't fit in all the tours and activities we wanted to try- guess we just have to go back!
I can give you a full list (I think) tomorrow- putting kids to bed now.

Do you have to be a hotel guest to take part in the tour, etc. We go to AKL for dinner sometimes or a shop at the store after AK park... we would love to do the tour.

Definately eat at Boma, a must for each trip for us!! And my favorite time of year at DW is September, but we haven't been able to do that in a few years since our oldest started high school.....The lines were short to non existant and the weather is great for enjoying the pools. We loved AKL and I'd go back in a second, but my DH loves to try new resorts, so we're off to try WL in December. You'll love AKL, just take the time to really look around and enjoy being there!!:Pinkbounc

You can also find the Hidden Mickeys. You can get a paper with clues and when you find them all you get a certificate. We really enjoyed that. I love searching for Hidden Mickeys. My DD also did a scavenger hunt at the pool and the night time animal watch with the night vision goggles. There's so much to do at the AKL, you will have a great time. :D
