Musical aficianados

I made the mistake of trying to watch recording of it when I was pregnant with my youngest. I didn't make it through the 2nd act. I was crying too much!!!!
We've seen it three times. Ugly cried every time. The first time my dd was, I think, 16. Might have been 15. She cried all the way home. It takes us an hour to get home...

Next To Normal ( This show does not get nearly enough love. )

I agree with this so much! I absolutely love Next to Normal, but so many people are like, "never heard of it". Music is awesome and it's such a powerful story. I've seen it three times and still cry.

Thank you! I'll check out Waitress. I'm a violinist and have played the music of West Side Story-incredible! I will look into Sondheim musicals-any in particular one? Thanks for the thread suggestion.
Sondheim musicals are all amazing and quite different from each other. Do you have Disney+? If so, you might try streaming the film version of "Into the Woods" to see what you think. (I'm assuming it's on DIsney+!) There is also a live filmed version of the original Broadway cast (Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien). "Sweeney Todd" is another one that has a movie (Tim Burton) and a live filmed Broadway version (Angela Lansbury, George Hearn). Personally, musically, I prefer the Broadway version. There are 3 different Sondheim Birthday Celebrations that I know of and a program of Sondheim at Carnegie Hall -- those programs are a really good "buffet" of 'Sondheim's Greatest Hits' -- which would give you great chance to discover what you like and which shows the songs are from.
Do you like the work that Ashman and Menken did for Disney? Their show "Little Shop of Horrors" is really fun, both the Broadway show and the movie version (directed by Frank Oz). (And if you do like that, try "Hairspray"! -- both the musical and the movie are really fun!)
ETA: There is a full version of Sondheim's "Merrily We Roll Along" on YouTube starring a young Lin-Manuel Miranda! Worth seeing if you can find it!

There are some great suggestions in this thread. I'll add the West End musical "Everybody's Talking About Jamie" and "Six". "Reefer Madness" also has a great score and the movie musical is streaming on Amazon Prime.
