Okay, so the big day is about a month away (41 days or so) and I'm getting all excited. We picked out our rings tonight (titanium bands), have the venue all picked out, and we feel pretty ready. Except for the vows. And the music.

I'm the music guy in the relationship, and I want to put together an outstanding, memorable mix of music for the wedding. I'm emphasizing love songs (duh), but offbeat ones. I tend to lean towards the indie rock, but I'm open to suggestions. Anything that's not in heavy rotation on the local lite-rock radio station will be considered. Oh, and I'm not being exclusive on the whole gay artists/gay themes thing, but I'm trying to avoid gender-specific personal pronouns.

So far I've got stuff like...

Billy Bragg - The Fourteenth of February
Iron and Wine - Love and Some Verses
Nick Drake - Northern Sky
Josh Rouse - Wonderful
Gypsy Kings - Caminando Por La Calle
Joni Mitchell - At Last
Heather Nova - Paper Cup
Jens Lekman - If You Ever Need A Stranger (To Sing At Your Wedding)
Rickie Lee Jones - Just My Baby
Ben Folds - The Luckiest
Huffamoose - Buy You A Ring
Paul Simon - Rene and Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War

And I'm considering The Magnetic Fields - Papa Was A Rodeo
(Best gay love song ever. I think.)

The emphasis is on sweet, simple, happy compositions. Contentment. Joy.

I think I'll need about two hours of music, and I've got one already. If the mix turns out well, I'll probably have copies available as favors.

Any suggestions?

First let me say congratulations. Basically just play the gayest music you know. LOL. I'm sorry I couldn't resist.

How about some broadway tunes. I personally love anyhing from the musical Wicked. Not everyone will know it but it will stay in their hearts.

Good Luck.

Congratulations!

I was also the music guy for our party afterward. Here's a small sample of some of the stuff we played at our ceremony. Not sure how much of it fits your specific music style, but give it a shot! BTW, "The Luckiest" was also on our playlist - I ADORE that song!

"He's Got A Way" Bernadette Peters
"The Way You Look Tonight" Tony Bennett
"Love Shack" The B-52's
"Dream A Little Dream Of Me" Mamas and the Papas
"Power of Two" Indigo Girls
"Can't Get Enough of You Baby" SmashMouth
"Married" Cabaret
"Without Love" Hairspray
"Simple" kd lang
"Baby Love Child" Pizzicato Five
"When You're Next to Me" A Mighty Wind
"Ice Cream" Sarta McLachlan
"One Man Guy" Rufus Wainwright
"It's Oh So Quiet" Bjork
"I Feel The Earth Move" Carole King

Yes, some of them are cheesy, yes some of them are VERY VERY gay specific, but they are all sweet or fun or both. My family and friends had a great time and thought we had a great mix :)

love-nat king cole.

I'm posting them as I think of them. I can't come up with a list off the top of my head.

I'm sure you already thought of this one.

I am who I am from La Cage. That is or should be the theme song for gay people everywhere. A great message for all.

Hmm. I'll have to think. I'm terrible with song titles, but Judy Collins and Janice Seigel come to mind.

Regardless... CONGRATULATIONS! May it be a truly happy day!

A Brave New World - Aladdin

Be Our Guest - Beauty and The Beast

Anything from the Lion King

And last but not least - It's a small world after all, but if it's two men getting married you might want to cancel that one.

Shania Twian "your still the one"

Sparx - I only have a list because I still have it set up as a playlist. Gotta love iTunes!
:music:

You gotta have "At Last" by Etta James. Ultimate love/wedding/found-the-one-I'm-looking-for song. :goodvibes

I just love this song by Nat King Cole for a wedding..

The Very Thought of you....

If I think of any others, I will come back and post.. :)

The ultimate cheesy romance song: Suddenly Seymore from Little Shop of Horrors.

That or "Creature of the Night" from RHPS. What can I say, I love the campy musicals!

Can you tell my iTunes is alphabetized by artist?

I could give you a hundred more, but I had better get back to work....

Good luck!

My first thought is the version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by" Israel Kamakawiwo Ole'. (it's the Hawaiian/Reggae type rendition with the humming at the beginning)
It's one of the most beautiful, creative versions of the song I've ever heard.

And then there's always Ewan McGregor's version of "Your Song" from Moulin Rouge. (And I also love "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge.)

Good Luck and Congratulations!!! :thumbsup2

A few others I thought about...

"All for one, and all for love" - From the 3-musketeers soundtrack.
"Everything I Do (I do it for you)" Bryan Adams
"Write Me a Love Song" - Ari Gold

Lovely Day
by Bill Withers

How about the old classic "I'm Gay, your Gay, everyone is Gay" by the Gay Bros. (d/b/a Dr. Demento)

Wow. Way to be completely, creatively supportive, folks.

I'm in the process of hunting down your suggestions, except of course for the show tunes. I'm afraid I'm not big into the show tune scene. I love me a good musical, even went to go see 'Singin' in the Rain' at a local movie theatre the other day, but for the most part the songs are much better in context.

Besides, one show tune would totally blow all my indie cred.

Thanks for the suggestions. And the good wishes. And for not banning me over the show tune comments. :teeth:

Here's a wicked old song. I'm not sure of the name?

"What are you doing the rest of your life? The North and South and East and West of your life?" and so on.

It's a love song. I don't recall a gender being specified.

Irving or Ira Berlin maybe? :confused3
