Music by Nickelback appropriate for young kids?

Can we define Young Kids

I assumed she was talking about the DS in the sig line turning 13. While I'd be ok with most Nickelback (especially the songs on the radio) for a child much younger than that. I think they are a perfectly acceptable choice for a 7th-8th grader.

My favorites at that age included Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and Guns N Roses. Heck I was singing along to Madonna and Prince at 7 or 8 and I turned into a productive adult so I really don't think some pop innuendo matters much.

Yes, my son is soon to be 13 but he is an apserger's kid and is less mature than kids his age. What might be ok for "regular" kids may not be ok for him.

if u buy the clean lyrics CD i guess it wouldnt hurt!:confused3 but i do LOOOVE nickelback!

My DD5 likes to sing Suicidal...not sure who sings that, I don't allow it...she also likes the song I Got it From my Momma! it cracks me up but SO inappropriate for a kindergartener...we stick to disney tunes!

My best friend had this as her "announcement song" for her wedding reception when the new couple are announced walking in.

"I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you still say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favourite damn disease"

I thought it was awesome- they have a twisted sense of humor!

:cool1: :rotfl2:  :lmao:

"If Everyone Cared" is a pretty decent song and there's no swearing, sex, or drug talk in it at all. i like it.

Looking back on my childhood, the surest way for me to really want something.......was for it to be forbidden or frowned upon. Rebellion is fun.

I am trying the "don't make a big deal about the thing, just ignore it until they get bored and move on to something new" plan with my kids.

If that doesn't work, I will probably pretend that I really like the band and sing their songs all the time (kiss of death).

Their music pains my ears and brain, and I am not even referring to the lyrics. I can't stand the singer's vocal style :headache: :scared:.

Remember Elvis, his hips were suppose the be evil. :lmao:

:lmao: Yes, my Granny called him "Pelvis". She would get so mad at my DS for bouncing around the house to ABBA (ABBA? even my strict Lutheran DM liked ABBA). Granny said they shouldn't sing together if they weren't married...... :rotfl2:

Yet, the dear lady thought Liberace was the "bee's knees" as they say.....:rotfl: We never had the heart to tell her.....well, you know.....princess:

Ah, Granny was a hoot.....I miss her....

Sure listened to a lot of KISS when she wasn't around....

In my opinion, it all depends on the particular songs, etc. I know that when I was about 5yrs old my favorite was Madonna and I went around singing "Like a Virgin." I had no idea what it meant. I also LOVED LOVED LOVED the song "Angel in the Centerfold" as well as "Jessie's Girl" My mom took me to see Footloose around the same age as well. I loved Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, then later Guns N Roses, Motley Crue, etc. My brother was about 9 listening to them. We turned out just fine. One of my favorite bands is Breaking Benjamin and my 7yr old loves them too. However, I have certain songs I allow him to hear. Ben Burnley is a huge fan of the F-Bomb...he says it all the time. LOL

I change Nickelback's "Rock Star" every time it comes on when I girls are in the car ages 8 and 11.

I've also changed a few others that I deem inappropriate. Pink's "Your Hand" comes to mind.

I really love the beat of "Candy Man" but it is pretty raunchy!

It's such a shame that some really great sounding songs are ruined by bad words or sexual inuendo so you can't listen to it with your kids. :confused3

Not appropriate for young children at all!!

Go find the lyrics to Animals and then it will be crystal clear as to why they shouldn't be listening.

I however, love Animals.:rolleyes1

Ya think? :rotfl:

I can tell you that Mark is very careful with his mouth around his kids. :thumbsup2

AWWW... that was cute. Teenage lust.

My kids have heard their music for years. I guess it never bothered me. DS (now 8) loved 'Rockstar' in 1st grade and he asked me if 'The Playboy mansion was anything like the Haunted Mansion.':lmao:

At 13 I think it would be fine. Maybe you could buy 'some' of the songs on itunes for him?

Definitely not IMO. They are a good band but not for young kids, unless you want to start answering questions like "Mommy where can we get drugs for free at?"

And Rockstar is not the most explicit song either.
