I had brain surgery this past june and the surgery that was done involved cutting through my neck muscles. I was on percocet for 8 weeks as well as Robaxin. I also had PT for 6 weeks as well.

Lately, I have been in a lot more pain adn having a lot more stiffness in my neck. In general, I feel like I've gone backwards a couple of weeks with the way I have been feeling. I am still taking the Robaxin but only at night becasue it makes me drowsy adn I have to be able to be awake enough to go to school adn do homework.

I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon in 3 weeks to talk about going back to PT as well as seeing a pain management specialist but I was wondering what other people here doing for chronic muscle pain/stiffness, especially in the neck.

You have been through so much.  I don't have any advice. But someone on this board will, I'm sure. I hope you are on the road to recovery and that the pain and stiffness will subside.

I'm so sorry for the road you have traveled.

Acupuncture can be very helpful. I was so skeptical and happily it really helped me out.

Best of luck to you:goodvibes

a family member who suffers from post polio syndrome affecting their neck swears by some type of epidural procedure. claims it's the only relief they've gotten in years.

i'm curious-could what seems like a set back pain wise be a sign that the nerves in the incision site are healing, and the issue will lessen in time? reason is ask is because i had major jaw surgery years ago and just when it seemed like the pain and tenderness in the incision site were getting better the pain seemed to spike but it was'nt constant, more like very out of the blue. with mine it was the nerve endings healing. it was very strange for a few months and if i remember right i was given some kind of anti inflamitories to go with my pain meds (seemed to help).

hope you feel better soon.

Yes! Acupuncture can be very helpful in pain management. When I was pg, I had terrible back pain and couldn't take strong pain killers and in desperation went for acupuncture. It was like a miracle. It took 3 or 4 sessions, but it really helped.

When looking for a good acupuncturist, make sure you get someone either actually trained in China or second best, someone who has been trained in a true Chinese school.

Good luck, chronic pain really stinks:grouphug:

is acupuntcure usually covered by insurance? We've hit 100% coverage for me on medical so anything we do, we dont pay for anything except copay nad since we've already spent $9,000 OOP since July, we'd really prefer something that will definitely be covered 100%

It really depends on your plan. More and more plans are covering "non-traditional" forms of medicine, especially when it comes to pain. You should have a form or a website you can check to see what is covered.
