(For those who are eagerly awaiting the actual nitty-gritty on Disneyland, tune in for Day 4.)
About the title: On our last trip to Disneyland, I noted that it seemed that Murphy's Law was in constant effect...dealing with a delayed flight, room theft and a near-miss by Super Shuttle on getting us to the airport. Details and photos from this trip report are available on my Disney Trip reports page at: http://www.wowway.com/~kitsune This time around, Murphy pretty much had his way with us from the beginning....
Pre-trip - 4 weeks before our trip was supposed to start, my daughter and I decided to make a weekend excursion to Chicago. Hiking through the museums and the city took its toll on my feet and I ended up back in the hospital with a blister that refuses to heal on my last good foot. (About 1/3 of my left foot has already been amputated due to diabetes.) Time to face the fact that I cannot march my way through like Patton anymore. Instead of relying on renting an ECV/scooter from the parks (Something notoriously difficult to do during our 2004 WDW Thanksgiving trip), I decided to buy my own to travel with. The wife and I had a nice time driving to Gettysburg, PA to pick up the one I bought on Ebay...a circa 1990 antique by scooter standards but was reasonably cheap and a real standout (bright yellow) in a crowded park.
I had booked us for the week at the Alpine Inn (also known as the Alpine Motel) on Katella which was about 50 yards from an entraceway to the Disneyland Timon parking lot. The rooms went from $45 on Monday-Thursday with $69 Friday & Saturday. I had arranged to pay cash on arrival...or so I thought.
Friday, June 10th: Payday. I went to the bank and withdrew evertything except for the rental car deposit for the trip. That night I was checking on my account to make sure there wasn't any unexpected surprises...SUPRISE! Alpine charged my card for the first night's stay and shot our getting our rental car right out the window. The bank had long closed and a frantic call to Alpine didn't go anywhere.
Saturday, June 11th: Our arrival at LAX confirmed the worst...not enough left in the account for a deposit, no rental car. (And we wouldn't have had enough left to do anything if we forked out enough for one of the 'cash deposit' places.) While trying to figure out our next move, I decided to call 'Mickey's Space Ship Shuttle' as I has seen their vans circling the airport and was amused by the name. (And I was still harboring a grudge against Super Shuttle for nearly screwing up last time.) for $15 each plus tip, we were on our way to Anaheim!
Check in was 'ok'. We had about a 20 minute wait until the housekeeping finished cleaning our room which was on the first floor per my request to make it easy to get the scooter in/out of the room. Wife and daughter spent the remainder of the day swimming in the pool while I tried to figure out our next move.
