Murder trial at work today :(

They are having a murder trial today where I work for a little 10 year old boy that shot his friend this summer. They had the jury selection yesterday. They are going to have to try to decide whether to sentence him as an adult or not too. He was playing with his friend and they got in an argument and he told the other boys, I'm gonna go get a gun and shoot you, then he went home, got a gun and came back and shot the little boy. The boy's mom didn't find him laying in the back yard for a few more hours (I think she was at work). Really sad for both families. He is just a tiny little guy that made a really bad decision. I wish he hadn't had access to that gun! It's going to be a media circus around here for a while.

update...well, they are charging him as a juvenile if he's found guilty, but the police botched up something in the investigation, so who knows now what will happen???

Are you kidding me?? That should be a pretty quick decision, he's 10, he's a child.

Maybe they should hold the kids parents responsible for leaving a loaded weapon laying around the house for the kids to find.

Were the parents brought up on charges? They should have been since he had access to the gun, unless he went out of the way to retreive the gun and load it himself, or went around some locking system.

Thats true, I agree he's 10 and a child, I think that just means the type of punishment that will be rendered, usually it would be placement in a juvenile center until 18. They haven't brought the parents up on charges at this time, but of course he's innocent until proven guilty too, so I guess they might be waiting for that first.

Well I certainly hope so, usually deciding if they should be 'sentenced as an adult' doesn't mean juvenile center until they ar e18, it means life in prison. They've already done that to a 13 year old, which I presonally think had more to do with the color of his skin than anything.
