Mummified Baby

Anyone else hear this story? My heart goes out to this woman that found this baby. I'm sure she is questioning all kinds of things about her parents who are sadly deceased and unable to explain.

WOW! Not sure to think of it as so very creepy or so very sad. A little of both I suppose. Let us know if you hear anymore on it. I wonder who the little girl in the photo with the body was/is.

Yes, only in Florida would this happen, however, I wonder how many other Unclaimed Storage Units there are, and whats Inside of them?? Can you imagine, those poor people flying all the way out, and finding THAT!

So strange. What a shock, I too am creeped out by storage units thanks to silence of the lambs. How strange to have carried it around with them from home to home.....can you imagine the emotional pain she must have been in with all that guilt?

It is a sad story but has also happened here in Connecticut a mummified baby was found in 2002. She probably couldn't bear to part with the baby.

"In 2002, someone itemizing an estate in Connecticut opened a cedar hope chest and found a mummified infant wrapped in a blanket. Investigators determined the remains are 50 years old and the child of a woman who had never married, according to The New York Times. Despite its age, the baby had retained its form, although its skin was dried, withered and brownish."

I remember when this was in the news.

Amazing that when the baby first died and was put into the suitcase that the odor and fluids that happens with decomposition didn't alert someone to the fact that it was there. And imagine carrying that suitcase back and forth between homes for all those years?

It's a fascinating commentary on human nature.

Now that is an interesting article about the 2nd baby. Geez, makes you wonder how many stillborn relatives you had and they were just packed up or buried in the backyard. There was a news blurb/video on Yahoo's home page about mothers wanting birth certifs for still borns somewhere. I didnt watch it but wow, what if they requested something like that 50ish years ago.

I can't find a link to it, but there was a similar discovery in the Twin Cities a year or two ago.
I can't remember the exact details, but it was a similar situation - daughter cleaning out her parent's stored belongings finds a mummified infant. I can't remember if both parents were dead, but I know someone else involved had Alzheimer's, so could not give any answers.

wow, I would be completely horrified if I found something like that in my mother's belongings!

My FIL had a storage unit and after he passed away, it was up to DH to clear it out. My FIL and MIL were divorced! He was an odd man, very private. I was really creeped out by his storage unit and was really afraid we'd find something we did not want to see. Not sure WHAT I thought would be in there, for sure not a mummified baby or anything like that, but still...it gave me the willies! Luckily, we didn't find anything creepy in there!
