Multiple UY?

Would like to hear from those who have multiple UY contracts and what they like/don't like about it. I have a March UY that will work well for my Spring and Summer vacations, but I'm considering adding an October UY for Thanksgiving/Christmas. We often have to change or cancel vacations due to business and thought the additional time to bank or use the points for the Thanksgiving/Christmas reschedules might outweigh the hassle of two separate master accounts.

TIA

P.S. This board is great! The collective intelligence is awesome :wave2:

Welcome to the DIS :)

We have two use years. Not so much because we planned to have them for a particular purpose. The only advantage I see to a use year is for the reasons you stated.

Managing the contracts is easy. Dave Fredrickson has a great program for this purpose. And you can track your points online at DVC.

I also have 2 UY's. March and September.

The only issue I have had (and it is my own fault) is with the waitlist. I waitlisted on 1 UY for my May dates and not the other.

Now I remind myself to waitlist for both UY's because although I am the same person, my UY's are different and I cant book a waitlist from my March UY with my Sept UY points. Treat your different UY's like they are 2 separate memberships belonging to 2 different people and you will be alright.

I know that is confusing, but you understand it after it happens. :confused3

I use my Sept UY points to book our Christmas/NYE ressies and I use my March UY to book our May/June ressies. We originally only planned to go once a year in the summer, but we all have 2 weeks off every Christmas so we added that trip and contract.

There are a few interesting things about having more than 1 UY, but it also depends on how you plan on using your contracts.

We have 2 contracts at the same home resort but with different UYs. You need to be concerned with the banking deadlines that are based on the UY. The thing that was a surprise to me was that even though our points are at the same resort they are considered 2 separate entities because of the UY and because they are 2 different contracts (one through Disney, one through Timeshare Store).

When trying to book a stay you can't consider the total number of points you have but how many in each contract. The points are used from each contract independently unless you transfer them from one to the other. For example you have 2 contracts with 100 points each and your stay requires 125 points. Plenty of points overall but they need to fit properly from each contract. I've had to do 3 days from one contract and 3 days from another then link them together etc. It can get interesting, but so far always doable. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the UY tips. If you buy a TTS resale contract and then another resale with the same UY, will second contract be considered part of the master contract for purposes of banking and pooling points usage?

TIA
