Multiple use years same resort

Remind me again, if I buy a contract from the same resort but a different use year as my existing contracts do they get combined together in reservations? Specifically, I currently have two contracts which are the same resort and use year and in reservations/booking they appear combined (have X number of points to use) and I would like to know if I add a third contact from the same resort but different use year will the booking be as seamless. I do have the option of selecting which contract to take the points from currently so I'm assuming this is easy (just a matter of managing different use years) but want to check before I pull the trigger. I don't want to wind up constantly needing to call member services for reservations because I'm not able to pull from the points I want online. Thanks in advance.

Different UYs = Different Memberships. With different memberships, you would need to either transfer points from one membership to the other or make separate reservations.

Unless you have a good reason for multiple UY's why make your life more complicated?

Ok, sounds like it is complicated then. Do you know if you can do point transfers online or is it a call to member services?

Well, what I'm trying to gauge is how much more complicated. If it's just managing the use years (when to bank, when new points come, etc..) then that isn't a big deal for me. If it gets into calls to member services to transfer points which I think would also negate my ability to transfer in other points for that year and possibly calls to combine reservations then it gets to be a bit more of a pain for me and probably not worth it.

Double the work of one UY and you have to call and hope that MS doesn't screw things up. We transferred once from one of our UY's to the other. Points do not show in your account and we wanted to transfer and book AKV CL which was available at the time of the call. First MS said that we didn't have any transferred points and after 15 minutes of me demanding to speak to a supervisor who found the points, some how the CL was snagged up by someone else.

Transferred points keep their UY and home resort.

Some will post that they don't have issues with several UY's, I do.

I appreciate the insight, not a problem I want to have. If the points won't show in my account after transfer then that is the deal breaker for me. If I don't have to call MS then I really don't want to...nothing against them just not an extra thing I want to have to do.

It's not that big of a deal for me personally but it's a shame that it's not a more efficient process. Right now we have one home resort, but in the future we may add another. We may not always want to use the points at that resort and instead want to combine them with other points to book inside of 7 months. Right now with two contracts I select which one I want the points to come out of, not sure why it couldn't work that way for multiple resorts and use years. May cost a bit to improve the software to do this (most of the functionality already seems to be there) but I would think it would be offset by the savings in calls to MS.

Transferred points keep their home resort so you can't combine until 7 months. At 7 months you can just select to use points from both contracts, from different home resorts, no need to transfer.

No, you have to call them to do transfers. I think it is so they are talking to someone live and have the conversation on tape as transfers are a final transaction and they want to be sure they are talking to the correct person!

For the same resort and to use together I wouldn't even if/when they fix it so they show up.

Typically, you'd transfer the points at the time you make your reservation. So, essentially, you'd call MS and use the points immediately. You wouldn't need to see them in your account unless you later cancel.

But, you do have to call, so you'll lose an hour when you book.

Thanks for clarifying, this is how I had hoped booking with the same resort priority but different use years would work at greater than 7 months. Seems like they have it set up for people to own different resorts but not multiple use years at resorts.

Because of the extra work with managing multiple use years (banking, availability)?
Just because of the complexity. Now there are situations where it would make sense if there were enough volume to run them independent most of the time such as if you had specific travel times where a UY were a major plus, you needed more wait list spots or you were going to have the independently anyway. A reason to have them separate even for the same UY would include different names on the deeds purposefully.
