I have booked two rooms (1BR and 2BR) for a trip Nov 30 - Dec3. We are 7 adults and 2 children (7&4). We are planning on 2 adults (the inlaws) in the 1BR and the other 5 adults in the 2BR and the kids will probably be bouncing back and forth between the two. My group would like to purchase the meal plan; however, the two kids eat practically NOTHING, so they'd rather not pay for them.

I know everyone in on the same reservation has to be on the same plan. So, I'm thinking of listing myself and the 2 kids w/o a meal plan (I'll just pay out of pocket and use the DDE and anything the kids have will also be out of pocket) in the 1 bedroom.

The other 6 adults in the 2BR w/ a meal plan. I know the meals are listed on the KTTK cards which are also the room keys, so the inlaws would need a KTTK to the room w/ the meal plan as well as a key to the room they will actually be staying in.

Can you see any problems with this, other than the in-laws having to carry around two keys?

IMO this is a gray area and it really depends on your philosophy. To me the kids are easy in that they will indeed be back and forth in all likelihood so you could add them to either room or one in one side and one in the other. However, being less than honest about who stays in what room for the adults is somewhat different, IMO. Still, the price for the kids is very low and even if they barely touch their food it's likely you'd spend the amount of the DDP by the time you did order meals and snacks. Personally I'd think you'd be better off getting it for the kids but not necessarily for all adults in your situation. Let us know how it works out.

Thats what I'm leaning towards, just buying for everyone. Personally, I'm trying to talk them into skipping the dining plan, as I don't think it's that good of a deal based on the way I/we eat. I'm not much of a dessert eater, so I'd rather buy one or two apps for the table but I haven't convinced them yet. They like the idea of having everything prepaid for, which is nice.

Don't forget that "everything" is not included in the Dining Plan. For aparty your size, you will receive a bill at the Table Service restaurants for an 18% gratuity.

Have your party look at the menus at the restaurants where you plan to dine. Add up what you will likely want to eat, add 6.5% tax. Then see if the plan will save any money. Also, see if what you'll "want" to eat is included in the plan, remember that appetizers are not included, but desserts are included. If you're a familiy that only occasionally would normally eat a dessert, the plan may not be the best value for your party.

Remember, the standard dining plan price for your kids is about $10 per night each. That is a pretty good value, but the adult meals may or may not be a value.
