Hi, I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer. My parents, brother and I are all owners/members on one 210 pt SSR contract. My parents are thinking of buying an AKV contract also. How does that work? Would that one only be in their name, or does it automatically go in with our other contract with all of our names? If they are totally separate, can we book with combined points from both contracts or would it be considered a transfer? Thanks for any help!

We just did something similar. In order to be considered an "add-on" -- which means you can buy a minimum of 25 points if not financed -- the names on the new contract must be the same as on the original. In order to have the names be different, it would have to be a new master contract, which would mean the minimum 160 point purchase.

Even with an add on, the combined points would only work for the 7-month window -- each contract would have different 11-month home resorts. If they are totally separate contracts, then combining would involve a transfer.

Your parents could do either an add-on, in which case it would actually be in all your names, or they could purchase a second contract in their name only, in which case they would get a second DVC member number. It just depends on what they want to do.

A lot of good info here and nothing incorrect. However, there are a couple of additional pieces of info to add and/or to expand on. If they don't want 160 or more they could go resale (though likely not for AKV) or you could do the add on the same as the current contract and then change the names later. That means it could not be financed to change the names. As for combining points from separate contracts, you can make reservations in each one for a portion of a stay and then link them in which case the final reservation would act as one.

If I'm not mistaken, an add-on also needs to have the same use year as the original contract, otherwise it would be a separate contract.
